Acupuncture can reduce hot flushes.

Research in California has shown that acupuncture, when given for 9 sessions over 7 weeks to women who were having more than 7 hot flushes per day, reduced flushes compared to placebo (an inactive version). Reduction was significant in nighttime flushes. There was also a reduction in daytime flushes but this was not significant. Earlier studies had also shown a benefit of using acupuncture for hot flushes. Although more research is required to confirm the effect, acupuncture may be a suitable option for some women.
