Next step: had the titanium implant fixed on Wed., at least I think that's what they did  ::) - so the areas where the needles went are sore; on Tuesday I undergo yet another procedure on the other side of the mouth  ???

Well: last time I went I had the screw removed, a lot of blue gummy stuff put into my mouth on which I had to bite; that will be the imprint for my new tooth I expect.  Screw put back in ......... next appt in 2 weeks' time .........

Never thought of insuring it, the whole session has cost nearly £4,000 so far and I've another implant to endure yet.  Are you saying 'the sieve won't work' or insure it in case the sieve doesn't work  ;D - are you offering to hold the sieve ............  ???

My gob feels like it's got a foreign body in and I managed to bite my cheek at breakfast time  :'(

Could it be ulcers?  I've had a lot recently.

I must admit I don't like dentists much, due to a very nasty dentist I had as a child, he put the fear of death in me.  But I'm very brave these days and go every 6 months.
I take it LD this is one of your fears, hence not going in the last 15 years, so good on you for arranging an appointment!

I go often.  I have a good dentist now.  Ulcers are different types of pain to abscess which needs sorting with an examination and anti-biotics!

Hi there, ulcers can cause a slight swelling as well. However in my experience with an abscess the pain is constant and throbbing, with a feeling that something is about to explode. Ulcers can be releaved with gels from the chemist and an abscess needs antibiotics as CLKD already said.  Hope you are feeling better soon.:(

Well done for going to the dentist loveydovey - my mum was pretrified of them, and spent years and years avoiding treatment. Things have improved so much though, treatment-wise  :).

I haven't read the whole thread, but going back to something on the first page... I mentioned to my dental nurse (while she was scale-and-polishing) that my gums seem to bleed more easily these days and I'd read it might be hormonal. She totally poo-poo'd it! It is totally down to cleaning, according to her. Well, she is correct that good cleaning can help reverse it, but it takes a lot more 'good cleaning' from perimeno onwards! Hmm... she's only young and has a way to go yet  ;)

Well, my gums are definitely better since I've been on HRT and when I mentioned it to my dental hygenist (sp?) she didn't disagree and said that it was an interesting point. Others on here have mentioned improvement with HRT too. That's not a reason to be on it, of course but does point to the fact that hormones have an effect, whether good or bad.

Can't believe this thread is still going strong, however i am still waiting on my appointment with dental hospital, this goes way back months. It's on Wednesday this week, find out if root canal treatment is the way forward for my crown problem.
