Menopause.  I was never 1 for loud concerts/festivals so there's no apparent damage.  I've had allergic rhinitis since the 1970s which won't have helped.  It's quiet right. now and I don't, fortunately, hear it in the night.

That's good that you don't hear it at night; does it come and go, or are you just not aware of it at night

They have phenols in them which aggravate mine.

It could be the chewing as well x

Hello ladies.

I have just seen this thread after posting separately about my friend with Tinnitus.

I was wondering if I should suggest HRT to her as a possible treatment? She has had an MRI which revealed nerve damage in her ear. She has also been prescribed Amitriptyline and is using a while noise sound box at night.

I mentioned to her that many ladies have this condition and I promised her that I would pass on any advice or suggestions.

Wishing you all well ladies.

hi kathleen

i developed tinnitus in feb and i am convinced low estrogen was/is the culprit.

i am on 10mg amitrypline which most of the time i dont hear the tinnitus.

in time your friend will habituate to it but the amitrypline should help xx

Hello discogirl.

My friend is wary of taking the Amitriptyline at the moment so her GP has suggested that she begins with half a tablet. Hopefully that will help and as you say she will habituate to the Tinnitus.

Thanks again and take care.

Sensorineural hearing loss? I suddenly lost hearing on 1 side in late June and have tinnitus but my MRI didn't find anything and I was told that it had been caused by a virus.
