Crinone Gel
« on: April 10, 2021, 06:01:37 PM »

I was wondering if anyone has had a positive experience using Crinone Gel?  I have used Utrogestan (V route which irritated my bladder), Cyclogest (just stopped as it gives me migraines), and now I am wondering if I should look at getting the Marina Coil, or the specialist I see has suggested Crinone Gel.  I don't want to start something that is going to produce similar debilitating effects, as I have tried different types over the last 3 years; and appear to be sensitive to progesterone, and some progestins (evorel conti).  Are there any other progesterones or equivalents that I am overlooking?

What CRINONE is used for.

CRINONE is a vaginal gel that contains natural progesterone. Progesterone is a hormone that is produced by the ovaries during the second half of the menstrual cycle. It is an essential hormone for preparing the uterus (womb) for pregnancy and on-going support of pregnancy.

What is the specialists area of medicine?  MayB put 'mirena coil' into the search box to see what pops up, make notes ;-).

Many are sensitive to the progesterone phase of HRT.

Thanks for that, specialist is Mr Panay; so he is just trying to offer alternatives.   I have been considering the mirena coil though, as the 'least' progestin alternative.

Mr Panay seems to know what he's about.  Let us know how you get on?

Hi Sophie

There haven't been many members on here who have used Crinone gel but if you go to the home page of the forum and do a search you will find references to it. However most of the posts will be about research using this gel or listing it as an alternative progesterone (off-licence for HRT), rather than members who use it.

As CLKD quoted in her post it is another formulation of progesterone as utrogestan but it may well be that this formulation is less irritant for you then utrogestan. I agree about that - I use it cyclically and do find it irritating - well I need to pee in the night when I am on that part of the cycle when otherwise I don't! It may be the fillers but also may be the progesterone itself. You can but try.

Mirena coil - some women swear by it, but some of the progestogen is still absorbed systemically. Depending where you are in menopause and how much oestrogen you are using there is a lower dose coil - Jaydesse, and I think one with another name I've forgotten - which are the same progestogen but lower dose - but again would be prescribed off-licence. If you are seeing Nick Panay then since he prescribes off-licence you might want to consider that alternative ( ie the weaker form of the Mirena).

Thank you Hurdity, I have read many of your posts and know that you have a great deal of information. Thanks for your experience of Crinone gel, that does help answer some of my questions. I have seen the posts about the Jaydess coil, and the blurb that says it isn't suitable for HRT; due to low dose. However, like you say, it depends on the amount of estrogen you are taking; I will enquire further about it.   ;)
