Cycling 2021 - continued
« on: November 13, 2020, 03:12:42 PM »

The 2020 and 2021 events have both now been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive James Mason said the organisation had to focus on getting the industry back on its feet before planning a big cycling event which might not go ahead.

He said: "The uncertainty in front of us meant it was impossible to plan or commit the resource that the race needs.

"This has been a mutual decision made by Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) and we will all now look forward to putting all our energies into bringing the race back bigger and better than ever in 2022."

Yann Le Moenner, director general of ASO, said: “This work is obviously not wasted and we will collectively do our best to relaunch the event in 2022 and give the chance to the world's best riders to be on the Yorkshire roads in front of one of the most enthusiastic audiences the cycling world has ever seen.”

Geraint Thomas will be among three Tour de France winners in the the Étoile de Bessèges, a five-day race that begins on Wednesday, 3 February.

The 34-year-old Welshman will be joined by Team Ineos colleague Egan Bernal and Vincenzo Nibali.

"Following discussions with British Cycling, our sponsors, City of Lincoln Council and Lincolnshire Police, we will continue to explore the possibility of a rearranged date in Autumn but we will always remain conscious of this ongoing pandemic and the Public Health implications."

The Lincoln Grand Prix men's race had been running continuously since 1956 but was cancelled in 2020 as a result of the pandemic.

Not an event I was aware of.

I'm quite an expert at falling off a bike.  And crashing.  No sense of balance and easily distracted by scenery so forget to look where i'm going.  Usually giggling too much to notice if it hurt.

Ex-British Cycling and Team Sky chief doctor Richard Freeman has been found guilty of ordering banned testosterone in 2011 "knowing or believing" it was to help dope an unnamed rider.

A medical tribunal ruled Freeman ordered Testogel with the knowledge "it was to be administered to an athlete to improve their athletic performance".

It added that Freeman's actions were "incapable of innocent explanation".

British Cycling said the finding was "extremely disturbing".

Freeman had previously admitted 18 of 22 charges against him but denied the central charge about the purpose of the Testogel order.

So sad.  Of course, was this product actually administered and if so, to whom  :-\  :'(

Been watching Paris-Nice round up each evening :-).  Teo landed heavily and was immediately withdrawn on head injury protocol: the other guy, earlier in the week, obviously stunned - was allowed to continue  :-\.  The Team Dr got him onto the bike and away B4 the Commisers [sp] arrived!
