Title: Cycling 2021 - continued
Post by: CLKD on November 13, 2020, 03:12:42 PM
The 2020 and 2021 events have both now been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive James Mason said the organisation had to focus on getting the industry back on its feet before planning a big cycling event which might not go ahead.

He said: "The uncertainty in front of us meant it was impossible to plan or commit the resource that the race needs.

"This has been a mutual decision made by Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) and we will all now look forward to putting all our energies into bringing the race back bigger and better than ever in 2022."

Yann Le Moenner, director general of ASO, said: “This work is obviously not wasted and we will collectively do our best to relaunch the event in 2022 and give the chance to the world's best riders to be on the Yorkshire roads in front of one of the most enthusiastic audiences the cycling world has ever seen.”

Geraint Thomas will be among three Tour de France winners in the the Étoile de Bessèges, a five-day race that begins on Wednesday, 3 February.

The 34-year-old Welshman will be joined by Team Ineos colleague Egan Bernal and Vincenzo Nibali.

"Following discussions with British Cycling, our sponsors, City of Lincoln Council and Lincolnshire Police, we will continue to explore the possibility of a rearranged date in Autumn but we will always remain conscious of this ongoing pandemic and the Public Health implications."

The Lincoln Grand Prix men's race had been running continuously since 1956 but was cancelled in 2020 as a result of the pandemic.

Not an event I was aware of.

Then there's the scenery.  la Tour have fabulous camera shots and French history without leaving my sofa.  No need for a Passport or visa.  No need to change up money ...........

It's the accidents though  :o - if they thought about falling off: ever : they would go home to their Mums ........

I'm quite an expert at falling off a bike.  And crashing.  No sense of balance and easily distracted by scenery so forget to look where i'm going.  Usually giggling too much to notice if it hurt.

Ex-British Cycling and Team Sky chief doctor Richard Freeman has been found guilty of ordering banned testosterone in 2011 "knowing or believing" it was to help dope an unnamed rider.

A medical tribunal ruled Freeman ordered Testogel with the knowledge "it was to be administered to an athlete to improve their athletic performance".

It added that Freeman's actions were "incapable of innocent explanation".

British Cycling said the finding was "extremely disturbing".

Freeman had previously admitted 18 of 22 charges against him but denied the central charge about the purpose of the Testogel order.

So sad.  Of course, was this product actually administered and if so, to whom  :-\  :'(

Been watching Paris-Nice round up each evening :-).  Teo landed heavily and was immediately withdrawn on head injury protocol: the other guy, earlier in the week, obviously stunned - was allowed to continue  :-\.  The Team Dr got him onto the bike and away B4 the Commisers [sp] arrived!

;D.  years ago the balloon placed at the various markers at the end of Procycling races were stuffed into a transit van.  Now each 1 has a motor home of it's own  ;D.  What a job.  Lovely scenery.  Getting to the site the evening B4, cooking, enjoying the view, sleeping - blowing up the appropriate balloon about an hour B4 the racers arrive .......... OK unless it rains of course  ::)

I do wonder where the technicians sleep if the balloons have the motorhome  ;)

It will be interesting 2 C how many being in the morning  :-\.  I suppose the positive is that the weather was dry!

Day 11 will be interesting  ;)

I can't understand why 'kleenex' aren't there with large boxes do you?  After all, there's no room for a pocket in Lycra  ;D.

A couple of times during the 1st week but not since .............

I think that if they are going to another Event, they shouldn't be on le Tour ! although it is probably a good training : I also don't believe that the Olympics should take place and can't understand any1 wanting to participate.

There was talk last week between Ned and David about making the Grand Tours more green  ;D.  Then U see all the support vehicles, the Team coaches, the travelling between stages, the entourage prior to each Stage .......... the easiest way to make the Tours green would be to stay at home and ZOOM it all  ::)

Feeding - 'G'

training - between November and June slowly chisels his weight down with fish, salad, vegetables, quinoa and hog-fibred rice and pasta.  Healthy fats from avocados, salmon and olive oil gives extra energy and supports the immune system

pre-race dinner salmon with low-fibre, easy2digest white rice.  Breakfast [this gets to me  ;D] ham omelette, bread and honey, fruit and yoghurt, porridge or muesli (I'm done already ) fruit smoothing and an espresso.  Add to that B4 a mountain stage, pasta or rice ........ PHEW!  That would last me a week  :o and he hasn't done yet.

mid-race consumes two 500ml bottles of energy drinks or water per hour.  Snackes every half an hour, aiming for 60-90g of carbs per hour.  Rice cakes, flapjacks and panini followed to softer energy bars and gels.

post race recovery shake immediately, a bowl of tuna and rice or quinoa and chicken.  Dinner chicken and rice or pork rags with pasta.  With broccoli or beetroot salad.  During 3 week le Tour he will consume around 21kg of energising white rice.

PHEW++. It can't do riders guts any good over a long period of time ...........  :-\

He enjoys a 🍺 / 🍻 with his mates 'off season' as well as Welsh cakes ;-)

This month's Brother UK Cycling Podcast is a Tour Series special.

Featuring interviews with organisers, teams and riders, including reigning British circuit race champion Joey Walker and former champion Rebecca Durrell, it's a great listen to ahead of Round One.

Since its inaugural edition in 2009, the Tour Series has become a cornerstone of the British racing calendar, helped in part by the ITV4 highlights shows from each round.

The event has also attracted Britain’s star riders: Olympic champions Tom Pidcock, Laura Kenny, Ed Clancy, Dani Rowe, Elinor Barker, Katie Archibald, Joanna Rowsell-Shand and Paralympic legend Dame Sarah Storey have all lit up the series.

Aberaeron - at the public have been asked not to attend.  I suppose the amount of traffic there would be horrendous.  That road invites lots of accidents under usual conditions  :-\.  There aren't many viewing spots along that route to Borth, though they should go by the house I sold 40 years ago  ;D.  There was a fire in Borth on Friday, don't know how much that will impact on the Sprint?

Could you find a spot along the route for a look-C?  Misty yesterday, hot across Dartmoor today.  Wonder what 2morrow will bring, it's a Time Trial?

There was a fire in Borth on Friday so I sent a message to the Tour organisers in case the Sprint along the sea front would be compromised.  I had a lovely reply  8).  I think that we get a better 'view' on 📺 ;-).  Also, it's too warm for me.

Rain 4 cast.  But so far, through Barmouth now, it's bright ☀️ from a blue 🌌 .  The peloton are chatting away between themselves, probably putting off the thoughts of the Gt Orme which they will ride twice  :o. I went to north Wales for the first time last year I’m ashamed to admit, but we had a lovely holiday when we did  ;)

We drove to the top of the great orme, part of the way up we stopped and watched seals lying in a little cove, good views from the top, even though it was November it was a clear day.  We also saw the wild goats, I hope they will be on best behaviour today  ;D

WOW! I had no idea that the Orme was accessible!  All I know of Llandudno is that it is a retirement area with similar frontage to Aberystwyth.  Hotels along a Prom.

HOT++ there.  No goats.  Since they took over the town in 2020 many have been moved ...... to set up herds elsewhere ;-).  ? curry anyone ?

They were donated from Kashmir.

During yesterdays stage a young lad was racing on the pavement slightly ahead of the pro-cyclists, 1 who handed him a bottle for his efforts  8).

Similar to Fabio Quarteraro yesterday: he noted a sign in the crowd supporting him so he went over to the fencing at the end of the session to throw his gloves up to her: they fitted too - a bigger smile you won't find on those fans rewarded for their support  :great:

It amazes me how these professionals are travelling/cycling every week.  They don't know which Continent they may be in at any one time  ;D.  Pete Kennick (sp) was chatting about France whilst commentating, how he rode through with no idea how beautiful parts might be.  What a waste of scenery !

British cyclist Mark Cavendish was assaulted by four armed men during a burglary at his home on 27 November.

Cavendish, 36, said he, his wife Peta and their children were threatened "at knifepoint" by the men and he was "violently attacked".

The Manx rider was suffering from two broken ribs and a collapsed lung sustained in a crash on 21 November.

Essex Police said none of the family sustained serious injuries but were "incredibly shaken" by the incident.

They added the group stole a Louis Vuitton suitcase and two "high-value" watches and that no arrests had yet been made.

Sadly - the woman's Tour of England is cancelled due to lack of sponsorships.  Looks like the bottom has dropped out of the enthusiasm  :'(

I suppose that road closures have to be paid for; plus any road maintenance to make it safe; all the support vehicles ..........  :-\

THE WOMEN'S TOUR POSTPONED FOR 2023

We are disappointed to bring you the news that the Women’s Tour, the award-winning and trailblazing cycle race, will take a one-year hiatus in 2023.

Owing to a combination of increased running costs (approximately 20% higher in comparison to the 2022 race) and a reduced level of commercial support, it has proved impossible to deliver the event that we proposed for June.

The decision has been taken now following a three-week renewed appeal for funding, which included an incredibly popular crowdfunding scheme that was enthusiastically supported by over 500 of you.

We would like to thank everybody who donated or shared the story for their unwavering loyalty, as well as all the messages of goodwill that have been sent over the past month.

This outcome is incredibly disappointing for us and all of our stakeholders who were set to host this year’s race, and who have shown great support and understanding throughout this process. We will continue to work with them to explore opportunities for hosting world-class cycling events in the near future and look forward to the Women's Tour being back, better than ever, in 2024.

Thank you for your support.

Former Giro winner Geoghegan Hart won April's Tour of the Alps, a race in which Thomas finished 15th.

British Cycling is to ban transgender women from the female category of its competitions following a nine-month review and consultation.

Under a new participation policy that the governing body said was "predicated on fairness", such athletes will compete in an 'open category' with men.

Female races will be "for those whose sex was assigned female at birth".

The changes will prevent riders such as Emily Bridges potentially being part of the British women's team.

Mark Cavendish will have a familiar figure by his side for his final Tour de France as Mark Renshaw joins Astana-Qazaqstan for the duration of the race as ‘a sprint and lead-out consultant.’

Renshaw served as Cavendish’s lead-out man for nine seasons during spells at Highroad, QuickStep and Dimension Data, earning a reputation as the peloton’s foremost exponent of the art. The Australian retired from racing at the end of the 2019 campaign. He served as safety manager for last year's World Championships in Wollongong.

“I am really thrilled to return to the Tour de France with Astana Qazaqstan Team and Mark Cavendish as a sprint and lead-out consultant,” Renshaw said on Thursday in a statement released by the team.

The end is nigh  :'( - I worry more about the ride into Paris followed by the racing than any other day!  What happens if the yellow jersey were to crash  :o :o . They have to complete the 3 weeks ......... I hold my breath every year  :D.  It is at least dry in Paris now.

I have a good feeling for next season's tours, injuries always seem to follow him though. Am certain no other rider will hold back to let him take it, so it's down to his determination, fitness and a wee bit of luck.
