Now that is interesting!
After reading this thread I actually drove the other day with my best friend as the passenger. I noticed something a bit odd, i.e. that I was looking in a really strange place, like about 30 yards in front of me. I've just done some motorcycle training and they're really really hot on 'Where you look is where you'll ride', so they suggest about 100 yards (helps with steering and accident avoidance). When driving it was as if it took a herculean effort to _not_ look literally right in front of me. My head and eyes just wanted to cast themselves down and foreshorten my field of vision. Anyway, I made the determined effort, which was very much against habit, and when I glanced at the speedo I was bounding along the country(ish) road at 65mph - obviously, that's over the national speed limit so I slowed down. The weird thing is that it didn't feel that fast, I think because I was looking further into the distance???
