Thanks pepperminty. Had a read but cant find where it says utrogestan prescribable in Wales. Perhaps I am not looking properly.

Have any lovely Welsh ladies been prescribed utrogestan ? I want to follow the nick panay regime of estrogel and utrogestan. I have the estrogel but gp not heard of utrogestan. I did try the micronised progesterone description but no luck there either ! Will I have to go privately ??

Hi Janey- can't help you re Wales but it sounds similar to Scotland. HRT and Utrogestan isn't available although it's licensed for assisted reproduction.
I ended going to see a consultant privately ( nhs and private practice) who wrote to my GP and told her to prescribe it on the NHS. So, I get it no problem. Not sure if she's checked the prescribing guidelines though!
You may have to do something similar? Or why don't you e mail Dr Currie and ask for her advice ( although she is based in Scotland)

Thanks Michellemabelle. I have printed off some info re Utrogestan to show to gp .  Pretty sure 1 pump of estrogel twice weekly isnt going to deal with night sweats and norgestan for 7 days isnt enough progesterone. Will post my success or failure ! I will ask to be referred privately if no success

Hi LibraLady- glad we are able to get it but there are others who have been told no, it's not available. I didn't understand this so checked it out and it's correct. It's only licensed for IVF purposes in Scotland.

This is very puzzling. Surely if it wasn't licensed for HRT in Scotland (or Wales) then this info would be on the HRT treatments menu?

Are you sure the docs are not just referring to the prescribing guidelines for their particular Trust or formulary because some docs only go by these and some insist they cannot prescribe?

For example none of the HRT that I get on NHS from my specialist gynae GP is on the formulary list but she overrides the system by justifying why in my notes or her notes to the dispensary. All docs can do this.

Hurdity x

I get my gel and utrogestan on the NHS in Northern Ireland. 👍 I think it is the prescribing policy at your practice Janeyg62.  Some practices are really tightening up on what they will and won't prescribe to save money but I know the gel isn't as expensive as some of the patches and I don't think Utrogestan is an expensive drug either?
Either that or your GP isn't very clued up - there are a lot of them about unfortunately x

I'm in Yorkshire, and my GP hadn't heard of Utrogestan either. GPs are shockingly ill informed IMO.

Update for you. Saw three drs at my gps yesterday who all agreed they cant prescribe utrogestan. I have contacted NHS Wales who say it's not on the formulary list and gp cant prescribe. I am going to email back later to see if there are any plans to include it as it is prescribable in England ! My option now is to visit private consultant. The final gp I saw advised me not to take HRT at all and drink soy milk !!! This is a ridiculous situation isnt it
