New her advice neede
« on: November 26, 2018, 03:13:13 PM »

Hi all I have been lurking on here for a while.  :)
After a long drawn out journey with useless gp I went private and was put on Femoston 1/10 sequi which was raised to 2/10 as still had breakthrough bleeds. All was finally going well. However my specialist then put me on femoston conti 1/10 x2 as said as I was def post menopause no need for bleeds,  also testoterone gel 1 pump every other day.
Now however I am feeling sick daily terrible itchiness which I take piriton for however this wears off very quickly. Also very down and not sleeping plus night sweats. So they switched me back to fomoston sequi 2/10 But symptoms remain.
What could be causing all this gp suspects too high oestrogen .  Specialist has told me to stop taking them but I dont want all my old symptoms returning so reluctant to do this. Anyone have any experience with any of this ?
I really dont know what to do next .

As oestrogen levels drop off so the body may become dry, inside and out: skin, vagina, deep in the ears, nostrils ..... and muscles may become lax = aches and pains.

Do read our threads on vaginal atrophy as well as those on moisturisers, i.e. 'sylc' .......... the search box should lead you to them.

Fairlady64 - I am post meno but I choose to have bleeds because I cannot tolerate continuous progesterone.  There are many women here who have problems with it.  Balancing breakthrough bleeding can be quite hard to do. Gp's say they are not necessary which hypothetically they are not all things being equal but things don't always pan out like Gps say and there are loads of women here who are testament to that.  I certainly don't think you should stop altogether - I mean why would you and yes you will get all the old symptoms back.
As far as I am aware the dose of testosterone is "Pea sized blob" for women which is totally different to men.  This is because testosterone is not licensed for women in the UK so we have to use the stuff produced for men and if it is in a pump then a whole pump sounds like a mans dose to me.  Most women on here comment about the small tubes and that a tube can last more than a month.  I haven't got my hands on any yet so I can say for sure I am just saying what I have read on the forum.  It may be you have too much testosterone?  There are others better qualified than me to comment so someone may be along soon.

yes CLKD is right - we do tend to shrivel  :-\ when menopausal and suffer dryness in areas you didn't know could be dry which does cause itching but sometimes I know that if the liver doesn't like something it can cause itchiness as well.

Hi Fairlady

I am on HRT, and saw dramatic improvements while I was on Utrogestan 100mg and 2 pumps of Oestrogel.  However, at my last review my specialist increased my Oestrogel to 3 pumps a day (on the back of blood test results), and added testosterone into the mix.  I am now getting really itchy, as well as some strange breast pains, so wonder whether the itching could be a side effect to the Androfeme, or am now on too high a dose of Oestrogel?  I have a review consultation with my specialist next week, and plan to bring it up, to see if there is an explanation.

Its a bit of a balancing act isn't it?

When I started my oestrogel, I had bad boob pain but it went after about 3 weeks or so.  I get the itchiness if I drink anything with alcohol in it?  Weird and depressing huh!

Hi all thanks for replies :)
My testosterone levels have been checked again and all is well. So no over dose there.
However beginning to agree with you CLKD
As now suffering with pain in lower abdomen and burning pain in vaginal area.
My specialist said I would not need vagifem as I am on a high dose of femoston ( but i'm starting to feel this may be incorrect)
Going to see gp as not happy with this pain and also to see if I should stick with the femoston conti as I really dont want bleeds (they are so heavy)

Yep.  A localised HRT can certainly ease symptoms.  It can also be delivered to ladies who have undergone breast disease treatment.  So maybe have a chat with your Practice Nurse and ask for appropriate treatment.

Heavy bleeds can be treated with appropriate medication.  Let us know how you get on!

Well gp as put me on a short course of vagifem (much to my surprise) told me use daily for one week then twice a week until box is empty then stop???I thought I would have to use daily for 2 weeks then every other day foe 2 weeks then twice weekly for as long as I need it.
So not sure what to make of that .
I am now experiencing dull abdominal pains which come and go and hip pain.
She was no real help there either. Feel I may have to pay to go private again as I found she didnt have a clue.
But that will have to wait till after christmas now.
Hate depending on painkillers.

If pain relief works, use it.  U may also find that menopause 'experts' don't know much either so don't be in a rush to pay.

Also, maybe your GP wanted to see if the Vagifem eases symptoms B4 giving you a repeat prescription.  Do ring the Surgery to see what is written in your notes.  This product can be for Life ;-).  It is used every night for 2 weeks then every 3/4 and 5/6 nights unless required more often.

Do check next week about the prescription.  Maybe ask to speak to the Nurse Practitioner at your Surgery.
