Hi! just a quick query but can you use testerone gel on its own or does it need to be used with HRT?

I'm surprised that you haven't had a reply from someone who 'knows' about HRT!

You need to use it with a sufficient level of estrogen replacement to avoid possible unwanted androgenic side effects, robotwars.I don't think anyone would want to become androgen dominant!

Symptoms of such can be rage, oily skin and hair, acne, facial hair growth and possibly male pattern hair loss. There can be cardiac effects, too. Hope this helps! xxxx

We become relatively more testosterone dominant after natural menopause and as we age, because oestrogen declines rapidly whereas testosterone declines more slowly - so adding testosterone alone is very likely to produce androgenic side effects that Tempest outlined, which will further tip the balance.

That study is interesting Connolly - from a quick look at the abstract it was looking solely at testosterone and libido in terms of efficacy, but the results also raised safety concerns re breast and endometrial (womb lining) changes.

There is still insufficient research information about long term effects of testosterone, and in different concentrations, and with different types of HRT.
