Well - I started having allergic rhinitis in the 1970s. We began to wonder if I was allergic to the man I had married
. Nothing showed on testing, it is important to get advice from a Dermatologist before taking anti-histamines. That way the correct medication can be suggested. I have taken anti-histamines intermittently when symptoms were really bad as suggested by a Pharmacist.
I had cats for several years plus a dog + caring for pets for neighbours/friends. For years I had the sneezes, worse when going into a warm room so eating out was impossible as it was so embarrassing, sneezing and snuffling at the table
. Cut long story short, when DH retired we stripped the house from top to bottom moving furniture not shifted since we decorated the various rooms. He attacked carpets, curtains, mattresses, under and over the beds with the hoovery-thingy and since then
- I have hardly sneezed at all, have stopped Beconase nasal spray and know when the bedroom requires a good hoovering because my nose begins to itch.
I have a slight allergy to cat dander …….. so using special body/fur wipes can help. There are anti-allergy programmes where sufferers are gradually introduced, in Hospital under supervision, to the thing that they are allergic too which can work.
I ought to have known 'cos when we went on holiday the symptoms went away
The food stuff that I know upsets me is onions. Unless boiled for hours I can't eat them, so it's OK to eat chutney and Indian recipes but not fresh/fried onions. Otherwise
. There are foods I won't tackle i.e. squid or tripe
It might be worthwhile having a Very Good Hoover from top to bottom ……… wash bedding and towels on a Very Hot wash and throwing away pillows. I buy anti-allergy pillows and cover them in special pillow cases, some can be laundered but I've not found a way of doing it successfully. I remove the stuffing which can be used when packing glass ware etc. so friends in the antique trade are pleased to take it
. The cases go into rag recycling.
I used to have my hair coloured but found that I like the shade it is. The grey isn't growing as furiously as it did in the late 1990s so I don't need to cover it, a regular good cut gets rid of any grey ;-). It could be that the product recipe has been changed so perhaps going to a saloon for advice? hi-lights might be the way to go rather than an all-over colour!
Mum developed sea-food allergy in her mid-40s. Each time a breast lump developed within weeks and she had to undergo surgery each time. Lumps were benign but the surgeon insisted.
