I am concerned that you were invited to an assessment but the person who could 'give' the diagnosis and therefore suggest coping strategies etc. was unavailable - bad practice! therefore  :-\

Why does it put you off posting?  Have you had negative responses from us ……..  ???

Did you get the medication sorted?
Hi CKLD

I found it strange that when I went for my ADHD assessment, the psychiatrist wasn't there. The lady said that he should have been there, but  you know the NHS, and him being a consultant, he was probably spread too thin, I don't know why he wasn't available that day.
It was a proper adhd clinic.
I guess that if the psychiatrist diagnoses me, I will get the help but if not, I won't and I will be no further forward.
I'm sorry to use the word negative, it was the emoticon that you used in response to my post about adhd, I felt like you didn't believe me, but if that is wrong, I apologise in advance.

Hopefully you will be reassessed soon and get things sorted out.

What kind of help will be available to you ?

There's not much help as the lady told me the ADHD department is very small, but there is a five week course on coping mechanisms, and there is medications available.

I would think that would be great. Coping strategies are essential for all sorts of things.

Let us know how you get on.

If it's a dedicated ADHD Dept. then help ought to be available!  Have a look at the NAS web-site too.  Let us know what is suggested.
