Ariadne in Greek Mythology was the daughter of King Minos who helped Theseus defeat the Minotaur in the labryinth -or something like that!

In secondary school we were taught Latin and Classical Studies, and once in class, my friend asked what my favourite name from Greek and Latin stories was - it was Ariadne. Hers was Astynax who was son of Hector and Andromache. We then got the giggles pairing those names with our surnames and were told off for it ;D

When I was trying to think of a forum name, I remembered that occasion, had a chuckle and decided to use Ariadne.

Ariadne xx

When my son was at grammar school he was called Minkus, from a TV series called Boy meets World - Minkus was blonde, wore glasses and was a bit of a geek, so it was perfect for him. When I first had to think of an online name (I think it was to play Tetris) I decided on Minkusmum and I've used it ever since.

Mine name was once a nick name. Purplenanny, I thought your name might be a nod to that lovely poem about growing old disgracefully and wearing purple! Can't remember the title.

sparkle  ;D as I have said I really don't think I can use that name now

but if I manage to compose a better one I will think about it. babyjane is ok but keeps me rooted in my childhood which is not such a good thing.

Mine dates back to a big fire at a school where I used to work - I was a lab technician and the labs were out of use.  As I could use the school switchboard and type, I helped out in the office (which also meant the office staff had time to sort out the smoke-damaged strong-room contents).  The office manager emerged from the strong-room after a session clearing out looking particularly grubby ... one of the other office staff was called Sue, so they instantly became Sooty and Soo, the third permanent member of the office team being Sweep!  Me - I was the one that turns up every now and again, causes trouble, then disappears - Little Cousin Scampi!  It stuck and has been with me ever since .... nearly 20 years now!!

You and me babyjane,  maybe it is time for a change.

My favourite book by Barbara Erskine is ""Daughters of Fire" the story of Cartimandua Queen of the Brigantes, a Celtic Queen in Ancient Britain (not a lot is known about her)

I thought that would be a good forum name, then I though how would HB and CG abbreviate it  ;D
