Duck breast with plumb sauce. New season asparagus and Jersey Royal potatoes.
Newly picked rhubarb and ice cream.
The rhubarb was grown by me and hugely over cooked as I went outside to help hubby in the garden....therefore the stewed rhubarb was renamed....not sure what though, but it tasted really good.  ;D ;D

Have to say the potatoes tasted not too bad and certainly better than last year.

Maybe it's getting older but some things like new potatoes just don't have  the flavour these days....heck I sound like my mother  ::)

Ooooh that sounds delicious, I love everything you've listed. Trouble with this thread is you end up wanting what everyone else is having (or had). I love rhubarb and also gooseberries, I like the tartness of both.

I know what you mean about tastes being a little disappointing at times. I sometimes wonder how long the new Jersey Royals sit in the shops for. They need to be out of the soil and onto the plate really quickly. Years ago they'd arrive covered in soil and would need to be scrubbed hard. Nowadays, in our antiseptic and perfectly shaped world, they arrive already washed. Maybe that affects the taste too.

I love them with a sprig of mint thrown into the pan, that takes me right back to my childhood.

Mrs Brown, I was watching the tv programme Dinner Date this afternoon and laughed at this woman who made a rhubarb crumble but she didn't use crumble she used crushed biscuits but she also put the rhubarb in the bowl uncooked, covered it with the biscuits and put it in the oven. Needless to say it was inedible! She also made her own ice cream but forgot to add the sugar and eggs! I wonder if she had meno brain?!

Dunno Megamind but I'm really glad I wasn't invited. Can you imagine being served up something that was totally inedible, how awful would that be? I have twice been served chicken that was raw inside, oh it was awful as both women were in such a pickle that nobody liked to say anything but nobody could eat it. It was like being back at school, trying to hide items under others on the plate. x

She said to her date 'you don't have to eat it if you don't like it' then she tried it herself and said how awful it was and took his bowl away! He obviously didn't pick her for the date at the end (he chooses from 3 different women). Why go on a show called 'dinner date' if you can't cook?!

I was served some raw chicken at a barbecue last year..it's put me off barbecues now!

I like the mishapen veggies that are now on sale. Why should a carrot be straight to taste good.
My own homegrown veg always seem to end up funny shapes. I have a variety of photos of parsnips that are really quite risky  ;D

My part of the world has really quite well known potatoes. They really don't taste the same anymore as the EU banned the farmers from collecting seaweed from the beach and fertilising the potato fields. The tatties tasted lovely with a little hint of salt. Maybe things will change now...who knows.

Maybe it's my taste buds though.

I'm a member of a community garden that is on the coast. We regularly collect seaweed and fertilise our raised beds with it. As long as it's left out in the rain for a few weeks it's great and makes for really good veggies.

I just love growing my own stuff. Very satisfying.

Why would the seaweed collecting for use as fertiliser be banned? I don't understand?

I'd love to grow my own veg but have never done so. My garden really isn't that large. A long skinny Victorian plot and I'd have to totally resign it to make it worthwhile. i do grow a massive selection of herbs and chillies in pots by the house but otherwise rely on Mr Waitrose. x

Those tatties just aren't what they used to be at all Mrs B. My mother hated them, too waxy was her complaint. She preferred floury ones. Jersey royals aren't that fantastic any more either.  :-\

I won't be cooking tonight.  :jiggy:

Love lamb Hasty, my favourite meat!

Batch cooking today, Bolognese, Thai chicken curry, Beef cheeks.

I'm at the chaos stage  :o Kitchen looks like a war zone, now the tidying starts. Ella's serenading me, windows and doors open so breeze coming through. Order will be resumed shortly, I hope!

As for tonight's supper, I'll see which one takes my fancy. x
