Adverse reactions! HRT & thrush.
« on: Today at 07:27:53 AM »

Hi everyone. An update for those who have kindly offered me advice in the past.
I was (still am!) plagued by an atypical fluconazole resistant Candida infection (Krusei) and have tried many options including Econazole, nystatin pessaries and recently IV caspofungin to which I had a severe allergic reaction and ended up in hospital - it’s taken me 4 weeks to recover from that.  I’ve now been offered boric acid pessaries but read that these can cause severe burning in some! So I’d be grateful to hear if anyone has experience of using them before I make a decision - I don’t have many other options left!

Also, although the thin sore vulval skin I had due to low estrogen and wrongly prescribed dermovate cream, has now recovered thanks to estrogen cream, vagifem & Estraderm patches, I have now developed some sore vulval cysts which my gynaecologist says are harmless, unlikely to go away on their own, but are not treated unless they’re over 1cm - mine are 0.5 cm - but they are occasionally very sore - I wonder if the use of hydromol ointment to protect the skin (gynae recommended) for months has caused them as it’s a barrier.  I wonder if I’d be better using a water based moisturiser instread like YES WB - any advice on how to soothe the skin would be appreciated- gynae said they’re not infected but the skin around them is red/inflamed.  She did say dermatology best place to deal with these but didn’t offer me a referral as they’re too small! So far the only thing that seems to help is HC cream but I don’t want to use that too often! Thanks everyone!

If you go to the members list and find Midnight Shadows profile you will be able to read her posts. She is someone who used boric acid pessaries & posted back that it had helped.

I used Aproderm cream as a barrier sometimes I don’t think the moisturisers are designed to be barriers.

I would try pushing for a referral for vulva sores advice or go private. Why should size matter.
Can be embarrassing to go when older but the sexual health clinic may give advice on the sores.
I went to them at one point not for that but found them really efficient and felt confidence from a lady doc there.

Thank you Minusminnie.  Funnily enough I do have an appointment at the sexual health clinic in Feb to discuss the next step in treating the thrush so I’ll definitely mention the cysts then.

I think putting a barrier cream on then might have aggravated them so trying the moisturisers now.  I wish the YES VM worked for me as I love the idea of it but I’ve tried it a few times and I don’t think it’s really for me.  I’ll try the WB one next.

Thank you for relying.
