Sleep and Gut Heath
« on: January 18, 2026, 11:18:49 PM »

I see a lot of posts about stomach problems, and it's something I've always suffered with too. One thing I've noticed is that my stomach is always bad when I sleep badly no matter how well I eat. I've been doing some research and read a lot of anecdotal stuff that supports the theory. Now I just need to work out how to sleep better  :-\

Morning.  How many hours do you sleep and does anything in particular wake you and when?

I find that when I lay on my left side my gut gurgles away  ::)

Do U wake because your body is hungry = gut problems  ???

I just can't get to sleep. Brain is too busy  :'(
The effects don't happen there and then, but later in the day, however I've been tracking things and the day after a sleepless night my gut is very unhappy.
Interestingly I read that sleeping on the left side is better for gut health but then I'm sure I can find an article to contradict that "fact"!

My brain is busy due to organising 'stuff'  ::) and when I sleep I dreams I does.

I often sleep about an hour then wake  >:( or I get up 2 P in the early hours and can't get back.  Then my brain gets busy  :(

What's worrying U, any thing that U R able to share?

Have U found that U drop off in front of the 📺 if so stay there.  I have a cashmere throw which is cosy and stay as I don't worry about being in bed.

You may be too awake during the ‘rest and digest’ phase of sleep.

Phosphatidylserine is a very good neurotransmitter supplement which lowers cortisol for a few hours. It relaxes you rather than knocking you out like antihistamines. It also helps quiet any over thinking as this is often linked to stress hormones.

You can take before bed and/or when you wake up. Once you start sleeping again this will restart your new habit and you may find you only need the PS occasionally.
