Serum Sex hormone
« on: January 01, 2026, 12:54:07 PM »

Just recently had a blood test and they found out my serum sex hormone is just over 150, what does it mean. I has a total hysterectomy on the 27th Dec 2012 and been on 2mg of estrogen only hrt, also in the last maybe 1 years been on testosterone, been great , also  been using Mounjaro for 6 months lost nearly 2 stone but had to change to Wegovy 1.7mg due to cost but this las week my poor stomach has been bad, on Lansoprazole , terrible burning pain in stomach and nausea, was fantastic on Mounjaro, hate this Wegovy.  Now this last week having awful heavy head feeling, feeling wobbly and feel like I am going to fall asleep, also yesterday had a funny turn again, it was like the blood draining out of me, had to go lie down awful,  like I did when I was told I was having menopause symptons, can anyone help or know what hign serum sex hormone please, cant see my GP till the 12th.

I am guessing you mean serum sex hormone binding globulin?

If the concern is that this value is raised, this is a normal and expected finding when you are taking oral estrogen.

It is not harmful and doesn't require any treatment.

Some people believe that testosterone is less effective when used alongside oral estrogen (as opposed to transdermal), because the increased SHBG may bind it up leaving less free testosterone available.

However this is a theoretical concept that has never been proven in any clinical study and most women who take testosterone alongside oral estrogen are happy with their treatment, so if it is working for you there is no need to make any changes.
