Estradot and gel
« on: December 23, 2025, 10:50:03 AM »

Hi, just over a week ago I changed from 3 x pumps gel and 100mg P to 50mcg estradot patch and 2 pumps gel with 200mg P everyday.  I was ok on gel but was noticing symptoms returning and sometimes felt gel was inconsistent. However in general I got a grear boost from it but overall I think I needed an increase.  But 4 pumps seemed alot and I was I intrigued by the gel patch combo.  I have felt exhausted since I started this combo poor sleep tension increase in pain mood bad tearful etc.. Just feel like my symptoms have got worse as though im just on 2 pumps and patch is doing nothing.  Im so confused to what it could be, the increase I E itself causing symptom side effects. The increase in P causing fatigue mood changes, the patch not working? How do we know.  I feel like i want to rip patch off and try 4 pumps gel to see but is this just messing around too much?  I have a big day tomorrow working aswell as a Christmas lunch and then a get together with loads of people in the evening but I feel like a zombie! Help? Xx ::)

I'd be tempted to go back to the original until Xmas is over and then start experimenting again. It's best to change only one thing at a time so you can see what effect it has. Utro wipes me out though 100 wasn't much better than 200 for me. And it's possible you absorb gel better than the patch. In which case 2 pumps night and morning might be a better option for you, splitting the dose should give you more stability.

Hi thanks for your reply.  I never got notified of a response new to this forum.  I have stuck with 4 pumps although I have not been splitting the dose so I need to try that next.  Its really hard for me yo tell now what is what as I've had to have sone surgery also and im not in recovery. Its alot  😢
I hope i start to feel the benefits of the increase in E its been 1 month now with more E.  This is a tough game to play.  I have no idea what the P is doing to me. My mood is very low but I am recovering xxx
Thanks!

Hi Joanna B

 :welcomemm:

Well if I took Utrogestan daily at any dose I know I would not be feeling on top of the world! Very far from it! Changing from 100 mg to 200 mg daily is a huge increase and this high dose could well be negating the positive effect of the increased oestrogen (though it doesn't work like that in terms of a given quanitity of progesterone needed to "balance"). It's just that sometimes the negative effects of progesterone are so bad that the positive effects of oestrogen are masked. If you are absorbing that high dose of oestrogen then the high progesterone dose is needed to protect the uterus. That being the case maybe you would be better off taking cyclical HRT? You would then see what happened to your mood when you are on the oestrogen only part of the cycle (after the progesterone had withdrawn from the system which takes a few days). Maybe you could try it for 2-3 months and see how you feel - though of course you would then get a withdrawal bleed which is not great. You have to go for the least worst option - which method makes you feel better overall and is safe.

You haven't given your age nor stage in menopause ie what your periods and cycle were doing prior to starting HRT but I'm thinking you're post-menopause as you're on conti HRT?

Do give us an update in due course!
