Been called for Biopsy..help and tips please!
« on: December 18, 2025, 07:22:22 PM »

I am hoping someone can perhaps help on here.  I had to have an internal scan as had a TINY amount of spotting about 4 weeks ago (couldn't get a doctor's appointment) and have had a few abdomen pains. I was told at the time all looked fine but now the specialist (I presume) has looked at it I've been called in for a pelvic exam and possible biopsy this Saturday.  I am so very anxious about the biopsy procedure as last time, about 5 years ago , I found it HELLISHLY PAINFUL ...sorry if anyone is about to go for one..my friend said she didn't feel much pain at all. ..but I think my uterus is slightly tipped and it was awful.

Any tips...I know to take paracetamol beforehand and did last time.  Internal scans don't bother me at all but biopsys....I am terrified tbh.

I'm so sorry, and I can understand your anxiety.

However you are not just a passive recipient of healthcare, you have agency over what investigations you consent to, and I personally wouldn't have an invasive procedure without a face to face appointment with a consultant in which they would have to convince me why it was really, really necessary and why for example a borderline endometrial thickness and a bit of spotting in someone with no risk factors for endometrial pathology (if that's true) cannot be monitored with a further scan in 3-6 months.

How much leverage you have also depends on whether you are taking HRT or not, which you have not mentioned.

If you aren't on estrogen then there is no risk of your prescription being weaponised to coerce you to have the biopsy.

Less than 1% of endometrial biopsies are positive for malignant changes, and whilst any medical procedure is an individual decision, I personally would have a much higher threshold for undergoing an endometrial biopsy.

You could refuse to have it without pain relief, it's time is was offered as standard (I also found it very painful). Again assuming they aren't witholding hrt until you've had it. V unlikely to be anything sinister, more or f a back covering exercise (in my non medical opinion!).

Can you take ibuprofen? If so, what about taking alongside the paracetamol (an hour or 2 apart)? Or, co-codamol instead of paracetamol?
