Laxido
« on: December 09, 2025, 04:24:39 PM »

Hello ladies
I’ve seen a few posts on here about Laxido use and am wondering if anyone has the “Laxido Leak” ?? Your not incontinent and definitely not constipated but it’s just a horrible place to be
I’ve been taking it for 18mts post prolapse surgery and don’t seem to work without but don’t know what else to take and my gp isn’t very helpful said stop taking it and if you get blocked up go back on it .. not very helpful as you have to avoid that post surgery Does anyone else suffer this ??

I know what you mean, I too take long term generic macrogols.

Have you tried adding in a bulking agent? I use psyllium husks.

Alternatively you could try fybogel instead, which is psyllium based.

18months seems a long time to have been using laxido after surgery.

Have you looked at your diet to avoid constipation.

I on advice eat figs with a cereal each morning.

My young grandson was given laxido to help control his bowel with loose stools. Seemed odd to give that but maybe it is the specific action of the laxido.

Post op we are told never to get constipated and that taking medication regularly will make sure we don’t Problem is there is so little support post op and nobody to give you advice once your signed off by the surgeon As I said GP was useless I follow a high fibre diet with additional prunes fruit and flax and lots of fluid. It’s just so unpleasant to have this side effect (assuming) of the meds

Some people just do need long term help with their bowels, it isn't any kind of moral failing, just like people need to take medicine for other conditions.

If eating prunes was all it took there would be no market for pharmaceutical laxatives.

It is far better to take what you need to keep your bowel movements regular and comfortable to pass.

I have some anterior vaginal prolapse but have not had surgery. Still careful though not to make it any worse.

The advice I was given re figs was from a colorectal surgeon after I’d had surgery to remove an anal polyp.

He said never to eat anything like All Bran which acts like concrete in the bowel.

Have you looked at the Bladder & Bowel Community website for any info ?

eg https://www.bladderandbowel.org/bowel/bowel-resources/toilet-positions/

Porridge.
dried fruit especially fig and apricot.
Fresh fruit and fruit juice.
Lots of veg and salad.
Stay hydrated.
Keep it natural as much as possible.  The body gets used to over the counter remedies and then the make it worse.

There is a fig/?? cube to eat - Mum swore by half a cube at night to 'keep her right', product begins with an 'O' - menobrain here can't remember.  [I did a search: Otis : also Senna products made not a bit of difference to my bowel ...... and as for Fibogel  :-X.  That went out of the packets straight into the compost ;-) ]

Although AllBran was suggested in the 1960s/70s/80s it can cause more problems that it helps, also one should not require laxatives for too many months without being checked by a surgeon.  The digestive tract becomes lazy ....... I've had slow transit for years.

I've also altered my diet in the last 5 years, mayB keeping a diary of what you eat/drink for 3-5 days - don't cheat ;-).  4 me it was shop bought cakes, scones, cream ........ I gradually cut out a lot of UP stuff and although it took a while for my gut to adapt, I have felt a lot better.  My bowel behaves better too.
