Urology appointment
« on: November 26, 2025, 07:37:22 AM »

Hi guys again. I have a urology appointment for what they suspect is VA. As my symptoms are ongoing they are sending me for tests. I don't really know what to expect ? Will they perform all tests or does it depend on your symptoms?

Morning.  I've no idea, I would ring the Dept and ask?

As VA is pretty common in meno it should be fairly easy to diagnose, like clkd says, just phone and ask  :)

Have you had any treatment?

If VA is suspected clinically (and it is highly likely in the setting of low systemic estrogen), then this doesn't usually require any investigation, it requires estrogen.

I don't even know what "investigation" for VA would look like - certainly anything invasive would be clinically inappropriate and a biopsy would only be considered if there was suspicion of a more serious condition, not for something that affects virtually all untreated or suboptimally treated menopausal women.

Topical estrogen cream and or pessaries can be used, however in the absence of contraindications systemic estrogen should be considered as the benefits of this extend way beyond the genitalia.

Erm... I have been using it for 7 weeks. A pessary. That's all I have been using. They told me to wait for 3 months but because of my health anxiety I went back worried why I wasn't getting relief. Some days feel worse than others. I suspect they want to rule out anything else ? The only symptom is have is stinging at the end of my pee ! I say only but it leaves you uncomfortable 😑

Yes definitely I could phone thankyou.
Goodmorning to you !

Cold i have been using estradiol i think that's what it is called pessaries. I'm just not convinced it's that. I don't know. Maybe I'm not being patient enough for results. I just want to know it isn't anything more sinister I guess. I can deal with the discomfort then.
