Mirena Coil symptoms at 8 weeks
« on: November 22, 2025, 09:23:05 AM »

I had a Mirena Coil fitted around 9 weeks ago.  I was fine the first 7 weeks but at 7 weeks I started waking up at 3am with a racing heart and my resting heart rate is up around 10 points from baseline.  My HRV has also dropped to 17.

I am wondering if these changes are down to the coil now surpressing my natural progesterone and whether they will pass or get worse?  I had quite a lot of bleeding until the last 2 weeks so my iron may also be low which could be contributing.

Would increasing my oestrogen help with these symptoms (currently using evorel 50mg)?  I feel awful during the day down to lack of sleep and the racing heart.

This is difficult to answer this, because the mirena doesn’t always suppress cycles. It never suppressed mine, I still had PMS (high progesterone, I’m intolerant) and I still felt ovulation. It did make my periods much much lighter (I had extreme pain and a lot of blood), which is why I got it back then.
(My second mirena, for HRT, gave me more side effects than my first and got extremely painful at 4 months. I felt it released way too much progestin, but that could have been me being more sensitive to it during late peri?)

So, while it could be the mirena, it could also be just a new phase of peri (I’m also experiencing some similar symptoms for the first time in my life).
