Constant abdominal pain
« on: November 03, 2025, 07:00:09 PM »

Hi ladies, in a right state, had no stop abdominal pain (mostly a nonstop dull ache) for a week. Feels different from previous experience of stomach ache, I can't really locate where the dull ache is, it's kind of all over my abdomen, sometimes lower, sometimes higher up in stomach. Hard to say. Concerns me that it hasn't stopped for one second since it came on 7 days ago.

Got ovarian scan in 10 days ordered by doctor as I've had a huge meno belly for a few years (am 56 and postmeno) and I hardly eat, never hungry, zero appetite. Ca125 blood test was done, no concerns.

Since this stomach discomfort with no respite, I've convinced myself it's sinister - the usual hysteria over possible stomach or ovarian cancer - I gave awful health anxiety.

I'm going to ask doctor tomorrow if I can have abdominal scan as well since I can't identify the location of the pain - ovaries or stomach.

If anyone has had similar (nonstop abdominal discomfort lasting a week or more) or can provide some calming words I'd be incredibly grateful. Thanks for reading.

Hi,sorry you’re feeling unwell but glad you’re getting it investigated. Stomach ache can be a multitude of things, especially when we hit meno. My ache is due to my diverticulitis which when it flares up can cause an ache. Declining oestrogen can play havoc with our guts,so don’t despair. Sorry I can’t be of any more help but it really can be anything, all mostly quite innocent 🙂

I get flares of massive stomach pain. High up/low down. It's agony. It's triggered, for me, by my trying hormonal aids - hrt, progesterone only - and a massive flare when I tried chemical menopause.

I've no idea what if is. Or why. Noone seems to know.

Had endoscopy and all was fine.

So I don't actually worry about it. But it's bloody agony when I get it. And yes, 7 days straight is not unusual for me.

That said, we're all different, so I'm glad you're getting it checked out.

Hi! I know exactly how you feel. In 2023 I had backache and stomach ache for weeks and spent lots of time and money investigating. Everything came up clear, then it gradually faded away. 2024 no problems. Then gradually as this year has progressed a low abdomen pain initially then changed into all over abdomen stomach pain all over, every day all day. Sometimes it’s worse, sometimes slightly better, but it’s always there. It’s depressing, debilitating, worrying and frustrating. I’ve been to the docs lots (when I can get in) had blood tests wee tests poo tests. I’ve had ultrasounds which showed a small simple cyst in my right ovary, which is common apparently, and a hysteroscopy and biopsy (still waiting for results), as still on and off periods at 56. I’ve had an MRI on my lower back as I’ve got lower back and hip pain too. Referred pain is always a phrase that I get frustrated by, as if it is, what’s referring to where. Getting to the bottom of our middles is a pain in the proverbial. So I completely know how you feel. It’s the weariness of constantly thinking ‘What is it?!?!’ I’m just so tired of thinking about it all the time. But it can be a myriad of nothing and all sorts of silly things in between, but we have to look into it obviously, which is tiring. I wish you much luck and sympathy with your quest. Xx

Many thanks for all your replies and for sharing your experiences. I can't shake the fear that the pain/discomfort, feeling of pressure and fullness is something sinister. I'm desperately hoping that's my health anxiety messing with my head.

As I said I think I need to cover both bases by having a pelvic and abdominal scan. . I've had gastritis and h pylori in the past but neither felt like this.

A constant dull ache for a week would worry anyone, especially with health anxiety, but the fact that your CA125 was normal and your doctor already scheduled a scan is reassuring. Abdominal pain can come from so many non-serious things  digestion, muscles, constipation, gas, even stress. Asking for an abdominal scan makes sense if it helps rule things out and calm your mind. You’re doing the right thing by following up with your doctor instead of spiraling alone.

Thanks, an update: saw doctor today, he felt around my stomach, listened to my symptoms and suspects it's diverticulitis and has prescribed antibiotics. I will still go ahead with ovarian scan next week but he didn't think abdominal scan necessary.

He can’t diagnose diverticulitis without a colonoscopy or a ct colonography BUT as I said, that WAS what crossed my mind
