Corns
« on: October 31, 2025, 05:12:37 PM »

Anyone got them? and ways to get rid of them.
Obviously I know how to prevent them  :-\ but it seems that even wearing wide shoes that allow the tootsies to wiggle I end up with corns  :'(
I did go to a chiropodist a few times last year and she removed them, or at least i thought she did, but they sprouted back in the same location. When I asked she said it was a ???? (couldn't understand her) corn so effectively permanent.

They can be a nuisance.  I used to get them underneath my feet due to wearing Wellies for years.  DH would dig them out  ::)

One can get corn plasters from chemists to protect the affected toes from pressure from foot wear.

I actually find those round pads cause more pain, and make the corn worse, because they dig into the area around the corn  :'(
I thought that the chiropodist had actually removed them, but she seemed to say they were permanent??

Morning.  Did she/he suggest how to treat these at home?

Depending on where they are some may return due to pressure of footwear, socks ........ do yours bleed?  Mine under the foot used to itch!

She didn't give any care advice. I was surprised when they returned, but she seemed to think it was normal  :-\
The ones on my little toes are more painful than anything else, and it doesn't seem to matter what shoes / socks I wear

She should have given advice about future care.  Is there mayB a liquid to apply that may shrink them in the way it gets rid of verrucas?

I have these on the bottom of my feet. Occasionally my chiropodist scrapes them off but they come back. The chiropodist says that it would help to regularly moisturise my feet. He said that corns often come back as your body has become used to making them. When my corns are specially irritating, I soak them in the bath and, when dry, attack them with a foot file. Seems to work for a bit!

I saw the NHS podiatrist recently for a suspected corn (it was hardened skin) and he recommended Urea cream or Salicylic acid. Had never heard of it before. I got a Urea cream containing salicylic acid from Amazon. It helps soften and exfoliate the skin.

I've used salicylic acid in the past as it's the active ingredient in corn plasters but it caused the skin around the corn to peel  :'(
Will investigate urea.

Also went to a (different) chiropodist on friday and she said "what these tiny corns"  :o so not sure how badly some people must suffer but I do remember my mother saying she had a few double corns  :o :o

You can get the creams in different strengths. The one I have is Urea 40% cream with 2% salicylic acid. Maybe try a low strength cream to start?
