Nausea
« on: October 30, 2025, 12:19:52 AM »

Hi all
Is nausea part of meno?
Im 57 and in full meno but this year started getting nausea. Some days i wake up with it, with big hunger, and it goes away. Other days it stays all day. I get awful belching with it,as well as bloating. Also a harder time digesting things like steak, or dairy. Feels like im pregnant all over again.
The only change is ive started estrogen vaginal cream and d mannose powder, not sure if that is it.Ive taken them for a while.
Thx

This could be gallstones. Digestive problems and the belching suggest it to me.

Beware of silent reflux. I had terrible nausea in peri, was sure I had some awful illness but it was,in fact silent reflux, try a glug of gaviscon and see if it helps, also peri can make us intolerant to foods we used to be able to eat, I just need to look at a tomato or pastry to make me nauseous.

Hello Nina57 and welcome to the forum.

Your nausea could be hormonal. I experienced something like morning sickness for about six months when post menopausal, I wasn't using any form of HRT at the time and thankfully it resolved on its own.

Wishing you well.

Hi Nina57,  this sounds exactly like me this year. I'm also 57 and post meno , I started with terrible nausea in March, it was like having morning sickness for months. I had full blood tests done and there was nothing wrong with me....so obviously hormonal I guess. It has thankfully got a load better lately and only happens occasionally. I really empathise with you  because it was awful to go through at the time.

Your symptoms are very typical of what happens to the digestive system as we age, men get it too. Its the time when you have to analyse what you are eating and adapt accordingly.

I would take a PPI for a month and see if that improves your symptoms, if not see your GP to rule out other conditions.
