Sleep or lack thereof
« on: October 21, 2025, 01:30:51 AM »

I hear about early morning waking.  And I do get that but usually if disturbed by a sound or something.  I then can't get back to sleep, that's the annoying part.

That aside, the biggest problem for me is I now rarely get tired at night, I don't get sleepy.  This is even when I've been really busy with work.

My brain is very active, I want to read and watch things (I do use a blue light filter on screens) at night.

Come the morning I am tired but still cannot sleep if disturbed early.

Pre-menopausal I didn't know why people complained about noise etc, if it were in the morning I would just turn over and return to my dead to the world state

The estradiol patch from evorel sequi seems to give me refreshing sleep, but still i don't get tired at night.  I am more likely to sleep through disturbances though.

This morning I had palpitations from my neighbour's washing machine, yet it's not a bad feeling in the room when I'm awake.  Wish I'd sleep through stuff.

Any tips on better sleep?  Supplements?  Thanks ladies

Recently i found out serendipitously that eating some walnuts before settling down has helped my sleep.

Get earplugs, the ones at boots that you mould to your ear are good.

For sleep, camomile tea, pumpkin seeds (soaked for easy digestion), magnesium (think it's magnesium glyninate for sleep,  double check though),

Interesting!  I must give that a go.  Actually I've noticed I sleep really deeply if I have porridge before bed (which I usually don't, but have noticed it), that's even if I have it with water, not milk.  I think oats have melatonin.  I still don't get sleepy at bedtime though.  Nothing calls me to bed.  I might get physically weary, but the sleepiness isn't there and it can take up to an hour to go to sleep.

Unfortunately it's more of a rippling sensation.  It's not bad if I'm awake just when asleep, it seems to prevent the actual sleep state.

I must try a camomile tea with lemon balm that I bought once.  It's at the back of the cupboard.  Camomile is good, but I remember being amazed at how sleepy the lemon balm made me.  Time for another try of that too, thanks for reminding me.  And I will try magnesium as I've heard so much about it.

I completey changed my nighttime routine due to digestive issues and night sweats. It looks something like this now, in case anyone finds it useful:

No screens two hours before bed.
Eating dinner earlier.
Doing yin yoga to calm the body muscles, and mind or having a bath, but with some hours before bed (as this can also keep some people awake), or a sleep mediation.
A massage can do the trick too! Or Tai Chi (restful for sleep ones)
Taking a book to bed with dim lights, and reading until I am tired.
Basically taking time to unplug and unwind, and everyone will have different things they enjoy for that.
Cuddling my hubbie, but banning certain topics from the bedroom, such as "what's planned for tomorrow", this is sleep or cuddle time!
Using ear plugs.
Not looking at the clock if I wake up, but lying there and taking the time to relax my body and simply find a rest state. so often drift back to sleep. Rarer that I wake now with HRT.
Always getting up at the same time every morning (to set my sleep pattern and stick to it).
I have a light alarm, which helps me know when to get up without looking at any blinking numbers which I found stressful.

Anyone else?
