Hi all
« on: October 20, 2025, 01:35:38 PM »

Hello everyone, just a quick introduction and a question (assuming it's OK to ask, I hope I'm not in the wrong place!)

I'll be 58 next month and been peri for about 10 years now, although my periods and/or withdraw bleeds have never really gone away.  I started HRT in 2018 (Elleste Duet) and in 2021 moved to a new surgery where the doctors are to my mind much better.  I went onto Evorel Sequi in April 2023 and as I was still getting the bleeds (and after reading up on it) I cut my patches in half which worked reasonably well for a while and in fact went 8 months with no bleed.  In July this year my doctor suggested I really need the full patch so I went back to that and in some ways things have been better (achy joints and dryness much improved).  The bleeding is really getting me down though, just finished 8 days and it was very heavy and full of clots.  I've got a phone apt on 29th Oct with my  doctor and would like to ask if using combined HRT would be an option now.  Previously I've been told that I have to be period free for a year, although I can't see how I'll ever get to that stage!  I read recently that the move can be made after 6-12 months on sequi, 12 months of no bleeding and after 2-5 years on sequi to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer.  I think my doctor wants me to have the merina coil but the thought of that fills me with dread.  Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be really welcome, thanks.  I hope all that makes sense!

Hi Crumb. It can all get very confusing can't it but you've come to the right place.

Sequi HRT is designed to give you a monthly bleed so you can't judge what stage of menopause you are at unless you stop HRT altogether to see if you are still having natural periods. The usual thing is, if you are already on sequi HRT and were still having natural periods when you started it,  that you can change to conti hrt from the age of 54ish. I swapped to conti at 54 but found I bled continuously for six months so went back on to sequi for, in my case, a predictable short monthly bleed. When did you last have a scan of your uterus to check the thickness and whether you have any fibroids? Many women on here have had a good result bleeding-wise with a mirena.

Thank you for your reply Taz - it seems to have taken a while for the penny to drop re sequi and not knowing where you're at unless you stop taking it completely  ???  To answer your question I haven't had a scan, it's not something I've ever thought about (slightly ashamed I don't know more about what's going on even after 10 years).  I'll have a chat to my gp next week and see what her thoughts are.

If anyone else has been in this situation I'd love to know how you dealt with it - thanks very much.
