« on: October 20, 2025, 06:39:57 AM »

Was wondering if anyone else feels much better when they get their period (not on HRT) ? All my symptoms go and then when period ends bloating/insomnia etc returns with a vengeance??
Not sure what fluctuating hormones can cause this ?
(Haven’t had period for 10 mths then just got period felt great when I had it but crap now it’s finished 😡)

How long B4 the bloating returns?  this is all probably hormonally related, I would have intense thirst and bloating in the lead up to a bleed even when a period was't due  ::)

Thank so much for replying - I think even though I don’t have a “normal” cycle , I think it comes around in the build up to what would be ovulation.
Iv got an appt to see an naturopath and am thinking I will do a Dutch test as have no idea of my hormones levels. Sorry for going on I just feel it’s one of those days when I cld just run away as have had enough of perimenopause and the uncertainty that it brings x

Blood tests for hormone levels are reliably un-reliable.  We should 'go' on symptoms which is why keeping a mood/food/symptom diary may be of use?  To chart progress.

4 me my periods waxed and waned for several years B4 disappearing in 2002.

Is it routine to see a Naturopath?  Do be aware that any1 selling items to back up their profession may push products that the body may not require.  We have NICE in the UK who approve/not various medications offered to the NHS.

I know everyone is different so can’t compare but did ur periods have long periods of stopping and then come back? I’m just over anxious today and overthinking every tiny little details of perimenopause!
Iv seen the naturopath previously with other peri symptoms and wanted to discuss with her my current diet and ways I can improve my eating to support my hormones

My periods were excruciatingly painful for many years: Heavy with clotting.  Once they began to disappear: often for months B4 returning, those symptoms fortunately disappeared.  I knew it was The Change so was never concerned.  This went on for 2-3 years.

As oestrogen levels dropped further after periods stopped, my skin became itchy: insteps when I took off socks to get into the bath and I would wake to find one ruff heel rubbing the opposite instep  ::).  For a few weeks after my evening bath, below my neck across the shoulders would itch ........ now it's deep in the ears, eyes, scalp  ::)

About 5 years ago I decided to alter my diet because my gut could no longer tolerate fats/sugars, i.e. in shop bought products.  I stopped eating buscuits, eclairs, crossaants regularly and felt much better.  When I relapsed with 'ch.mas' goodies, my gut rebelled.  BIG TIME I've never felt as ill.  :-\

So back to adding more veg., trying to eat more fruit and cutting out hidden stuff has left me feeling less bloated and much better.

Your reply has really brightened my day and given me hope! I do think my diet is key to how I am feeling (as long as my mindset which was focusing on the negative this morning and not helping!) and ur post has spurred me on to take a grip of my eating and take charge of my symptoms and not be scared of them. Thank you again xx
