« on: October 15, 2025, 04:05:25 PM »

Just been reading up on Hurditys post about this Dydrogesterone.....where'd coukd I get this please? Does the GP give this out freely if asked like yhe other ones?
I've looked online to buy it but I can't seem to without a prescription.  hurditys post made it sound so goid.
Any ideas? As a back up for me?
Or, any ideas or advice e on how good Dienogest is please? And can I get Dienogedt easily from GP  If can't get Dydrogesterone?

Dienogest is probably easier to obtain through the NHS if you say it is for endometriosis.

Dydrogesterone has only just been licensed in the UK and is not widely available on the NHS.

You could take combined pill Qlaira which has dienogest in combination with estradiol.

Or you could take femoston HRT which is dydrogesterone combined with estradiol.

The former is more likely to provide ovarian suppression. The latter is not designed to.

Neither will stop you bleeding.

Does dienogest shut ovaries down? Is it a kinder one? Can't you get Dienogest by myself? If so does it suppress ovaries? I don't want to go back on a combined you see xxx

Dienogest is really in a category of it's own when it comes to progestins- it acts directly on the ovaries rather than at the level of the hypothalamic pituitary axis.

It is anti-inflammatory and probably does provide some degree of direct ovarian suppression. It also exists in a combined oral HRT preparation which is not available in the UK.

However as the main point of me being on ovarian suppression is to reduce my risk of familial ovarian cancer as well as syncope reduction through having stable hormone levels and no bleeding, none of the evidence I have seen points to dienogest being as capable as the typical progestins for this, hence it is not for me.

I believe you can buy it as a standalone online from private pharmacies. This is a treatment for endometriosis only, you cannot say it is for contraception (again this points away from reliable ovarian suppression).

What would you like to know about Zoely? My experience of it has been extremely positive - I take take the active pills only and throw away the 4 dummy pills, because the clue's in the name.

I don't even know I am on a pill other than the fact I have no periods and every day hormonally for me is the same 😁

Absolutely!

I have a yearly scan for ovarian screening and my ovaries are as quiet as mice, just tiny inactive follicles.

I have always had high ovarian reserve for my age (I know this as I had multiple rounds of IVF and always had tons of eggs and OHSS) so if Zoely can shut me down when I am practically the Easter bunny it can do so for anyone!
