Dear Ladies, first thank you so much for posting your fears, experiences, guidance.. helping very much and I am more than thankful. I am new here and have a question on Novofem.. found a bit but still. I am 51, realizing like 1.5 years that i am in peri.. i guess I have been longer in peri but no symptoms, all good before .. one year ago low back pain - chronic, constant.. some time insomnia that I did wake up but felt back to sleep. like once per 2 weeks so nothing dramatic.. back in April period after 60 days, before more or less 30 days, paintfull. My OBG prescribed Novofem and the main reason - my reason - was the chronic, constant back pain.. I was told it is not hormonal.. MRI showed nothing, all good.. I told my OBG i have troubles sleeping as otherwise she would not prescribe.. she is only about hot flases and insomnia.. nothing else.. that's another story.. anyhow I am finishing second month on Novofem and thinking about giving up..positive is that after one week my back pain disappeared.. yeah like not hormone related..  right.. but i have huge troubles with sleeping.. almost every night waking up after 1pm .. many times.. appeared 2 weeks after being on Novofem.. my OBG said she never heard from any ladies that Novofem can cause insomnia.. (side effects say 1 of 10 people having insomnia so pretty common). Period only once after 30 days, no paint, light.. this is very nice ..
I know i have to decide by myself but I read that even a few months is needed to get used to HRT..now i have other pains like in my hips, chronic pain under my left rib (sono all good)...
I do exercise regularly (walking, Pilates) eating rights, not overweight. Always of course I can improve my habits.. so thinking to go back to herbal tea, flax seed, soya milk.. to elevate my hormones "natural" way..try hormonal yoga..

You have anybody experience with Novofem pls ?

Thank you so much for listening and providing your advices ;-) :)  Really appreciated

  • changes can be scary, even when we want them

:welcomemm:  menopause is 'natural' and there is no Peer Reviewed research stating that 'alternatives' are appropriate.  Many do find various ways of overcoming some symptoms.

In even 2025 there are medics that believe if a woman isn't complaining from hot flushes and lack of periods, she can't possibly be in peri/menopause  >:( whereas a good Doctor will listen to symptoms and prescribe what may be required.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress.

Off to find out what 'novofem' might be  :-\

NovofemĀ® is used in postmenopausal women ...

Peri-menopause are those years when we might feel that something 'aint' right' and when periods begin to wax and wane.  The last bleed = menopause though Mother Nature sometimes throws in the Curved Ball!

Which symptom did U want to ease first?  As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains: and the body may become dry: inside and out  :o

HI CLKD,

thanks a lot for  your reply, yes i know that Novofem is used in postmeno and I've asked as such my OBG and she said it's been used also for peri.. I have had a chronic one year low back pain which disappear after 2 weeks on Novofem.. maybe not connected.. who knows..

I am thinking just stop it and maybe wait till the menopause as the hormones might go up and down in peri a lot..  I know have like hip pain more like in my muscle etc. so I was hoping that by increasing oestrogen all such things will disappear.. which is not the cause ..

Anyhow thank you so much for your input !

Several years ago I had sudden, deep pain in the R thigh bad enough that I couldn't actually scream out loud. Good job as we were staying in a B8B  :o.  After weeks of thinking about my posture I realised it was due to bending over low cabinets at antique fairs so I have to constantly remind myself to take a break.

Also I have bilateral bursitis .......... when the sciatica hits I take nurofen, because it radiates down the outside of my legs into may feet sometimes  :(
