I'm late menopausal
« on: September 25, 2025, 01:47:43 PM »

I'm 60 years old and have still not gone through menopause...I have horrendous periods every 3 months that last a month at a time.
I've been fast tracked wrongly as being post menopausal which I'm not. They gave me a scan which found an ovarian cyst of non concern and a small polyps.
I am currently taking 2 degesterol a day plus 6 tranexamic acid tablets for the next 4 days while I'm on holiday.
Im also type 2 diabetic so my tablet intake is ridiculous.
Does anyone else have this problem as I'm considering having a hysterectomy...im tired of it.

Medics still don't understand peri/menopause.

We can experience symptoms 8+ years prior to our last period = menopause proper though Mother Nature can throw in the odd curved ball: any unexpected bleed should be investigated with a scan.

Who oversees your diabetes -  hormones can go awry at peri : thyroid function especially : as well as getting VitD levels checked.

Hysterectomy is major surgery so do discuss what your HRT needs may B after the operation if U go that direction.  Sadly medics don't seem 2 B joined up these days so it means the patients are filtered from one surgeon to another to get an idea of what might be required!

I have not been through the menopause at all. I have no sign of even going through it.

Like I said I have just turned 60 and can't seem to get any answers or help with it. That's why I'm considering taking the drastic step of a private hysterectomy.
Thanks anyway

Hi Alison. There are other members on here who are also still having periods way past meno age so you are not alone. Have you tried the merina coil? This is very good at stopping or significantly reducing periods.

Some women aren't meno til their early 60s, you're definitely not alone and they will stop in the course of time. A mirena is usually the best non surgical option for problem bleeding and stops periods in most menstruating women. Personally I'd try it before considering surgery as every surgical procedure carries a risk.
