Vaginal Utrogestan side effects.
« on: September 20, 2025, 01:52:25 PM »

After having difficulties re progesterone intolerance I’ve been given Evorel 50 and Utrogestan to use every day. I’ve been given the go ahead from the meno clinic to use it vaginally.

I was told using it this way wouldn’t help with sleep but it definitely does! I don’t fall asleep any quicker however, I do have much better sleep than I’ve had for ages…BUT I feel so groggy in the mornings!

I was hoping the vaginal route was going to work! Is there anything I can do to stop the grogginess? Or will I stop feeling like this eventually?

Progesterone is not the only option so you may wish to consider a non-sedating progestin.

Alternatively, and this wouldn't be for me, but some people use the progesterone capsules rectally, which is another option but physiologically would be expected to have the same effect as taking it vaginally.

Finally a higher dose of estrogen and the addition of testosterone can make progesterone easier to tolerate. You can take up to 75mcg estradiol with the same dose of progesterone so if you are going to suffer the punishment anyway you may as well commit the crime.

Thank you. My next option is Tibolone but it has an increased risk of strokes so not what I want to try!

The increased risk of stroke with tibolone is 3 extra cases per 1000 women. That's 0.3%.

If I had to choose between a miserable quality of life and a 0.3% risk of something I know what I would choose!

Also the particular study the stroke data came from included many patients with risk factors for stroke such as smoking, diabetes etc. it was not 3 extra strokes in women with a healthy lifestyle.

The only way I found was not to use utro but you can try taking it earlier in the day and perhaps it might have worn off by morning. Or you can use a sequi regime so you have more time off it. Have you considered a mirena? I have no side effects from it.
