Age limit question
« on: September 20, 2025, 07:11:36 AM »

Good Morning

I am posting a lot at the minute because I am struggling so much with panic and anxiety, I have no get up and go and no energy for life any more.  I hate myself I am being horrible to everyone .

Yesterday I spoke to a friend who is the same age as me and I told her the doctor has agreed I can start the patches her reply was whatever for at our age (63) you should be past all that by now. Which were the exact same words the first doctor I asked about menopause said  to me.

My friend is running about all over the place working going here and there having the time of her life and i can hardly get out of bed each day.

Can this  still be menopause because now I am beginning to think I have something seriously wrong with me and that makes my anxiety worse.

Of course it can, oestrogen deficiency is for life. Everyone has a different journey, some sail through meno and suffer later, others are laid low in peri, for some symptoms improve post meno whilst for others they're lifelong. I'm older than you and if I reduce my hrt all my symptoms return with a vengeance, including anxiety. Your friend is lucky (or maybe not, she may get osteoporosis whilst someone who needed hrt because of horrendous symptoms may be protected).

Your friend is talking about her own experiences.  No one should be 'past all that by now' for any illness/condition.  It's like suggesting that some1 with depression should be 'better by now' ......... is she still likely 2 B your friend?

Listen to your body.  Remember that each 1 of us different!

The worst thing you can do is compare yourself to anyone else, we are all different. Until you get your head in gear its usually best to distance yourself from such friends until you sort your own life out.

Nonsense to say you should be over all that now, menopause is a long journey going from one phase to another, you have to learn to deal with it and given time you will as long as you don't let outside influences take control of your life.

My mum sailed through the menopause.

She looked down on women who took HRT.

It went against her feminist principles "being pumped full of unnatural hormones to make older women more pleasing to men instead of celebrating their seniority".

She is now 4 inches shorter than she used to be, has a metal plate in her wrist, sky high blood pressure and cholesterol, arthritis and struggles to climb a flight of stairs.

Symptoms or not, I'll be taking the hormones.

Ignore your friend, oestrogen deficiency is for life. Menopause affects women in different ways. Some seemingly sail through
menopause ( but then complain about insomnia, joint pains and anxiety!)  Others have a really tough time and need help. It really is that simple.

Menopause can be compared to the work of the devil ( IMO) So, open those patches and slap one on . I hope you feel better soon.
