He swishes it round his mouth for a little bit first, before swallowing. The brand he uses is
Moju fresh root ginger shots. I just bought and extra strength one yesterday with double the ginger. You'd only need a small sip tbh.
It's a bit pricy so I thought I'd try steeping fresh ginger in boiling water and see if that has the same effect for him. Apparently chilli peppers work too, chop them, steep in boiling water then just sip when cooled, I suppose doing it that way, you wouldn't need to swallow it. But the drink has apple juice in it so whilst hot, tastes nice.
I hope it works for you because I know how dreadful it can be and hard to get rid of. Let me know if it helps you.

Can I ask how were you diagnosed with burning mouth?

I have had a sore tongue/mouth for the past 6 months. I have been to the dentist who can’t find anything wrong and the GP has prescribed oral thrush medicine twice which has not made any difference.  I don’t know whether to go back and see him again or live with it.

I was diagnosed with burning mouth syndrome about 10 years ago. I'd had a terrible reaction to a temporary plate put in while waiting to complete an implant in 2012 - the dentist said it looked like my whole mouth was burnt. That all healed but left me with intermittent soreness and dryness. The dentist then referred me to the hospital (probably ENT) and after tests and examination I got the diagnosis. This did all coincide with menopause so I suspect that isn't helping.

There's not a lot to be done about it it seems and I've just learned to live with it. For the last couple of weeks I've been using SLS-free toothpaste as was suggested here but it hasn't made any difference. I also dug out a tube of Biotene dry mouth gel which I've been using at night which helps a tiny bit for a while.

A few year ago I started noticing dry mouth.  I told my dentist and confirmed it was dry and referred me to the hospital to have it checked.  The hospital said that it was dry and did some basic checks and suggested it could be down to menopause or sjogrens.  Sjogrens can only be confirmed with a lip biopsy.  they recommended biotene products and said see notice if the hrt helps.  HRT has helped a little.  I also suffer with dryness in bowel and vagina area and use imvaggis pessaries and put blissel gel on the exposed areas.  I was also having bladder irritation but no UTIs where found despite symptons.  The products have helped but need to keep them up.  I have not had any lip biopsy as there is nothing they can do for dryness however I may return if the symptons get troublesome.  Also lemon sweets, ice cubes and drinking plenty of water and fruit and veg all contributes.  I hope this helps.

Burning mouth can also be due to sodium laurel sulphate in toothpaste.

Ice cubes are easy to make, 1 can put juices in too for occasional use.  Or herbs ........... i.e. mint.  Lollies or ice-pops too will help.

I self-diagnosed my symptoms. But after dentists and doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with me, they agreed with my diagnosis. It was only because of my on-line research did I find out that 30% of menopausal women suffer from Dry Mouth or Burning Mouth Syndrome. I couldn’t believe that the doctors (some of them menopause specialists) hadn’t come across BMS. Especially when it is SUCH a life changing symptom.
I’ve posted before about this, but taking Omega 7 supplements has made a massive difference to me. The BioActive Omega 7 supplement I take includes Omega 3,6,7,9 and Vit A which maintains normal structure and function of mucous membranes such as in the eyes, nose, mouth and female reproductive tract.
Before I found this supplement I bought root ginger. I used to chop it up into small pieces and whenever my mouth felt burny (often before and after meals) I’d chew (very briefly…it’s very strong) a bit. Ricola sugar free sweets are also very helpful.

Well thank goodness I have found this discussion!
I have just been diagnosed withGSM and also have had dry/ burning mouth and sore eyes.
I had no idea that they could be linked to the menopause!
Thank you for all the information. I will definitely try omega 7.

I have been clinically diagonised with Burning Mouth or BMS some 10 years ago.  Yes the SLS free toothpaste is the first step.
I also had a biospy to see it it was anything else.  I was given dispersable steriods to use as gargel for 2 weeks only.  Seen at maxio Facial Dept.

Then Difflam rinse if flares.

As I mentioned in another thread also have dry eyes and use vagifem too.

Funny that some have mentioned oral thrush.  Last year I had what I thought were cold sores/open cracks either side mouth...I was given Nystatin and literally over night it eased.

It is amazing how years on and in late sixities then penny has dropped on so many things that came my way years ago.
