Anyone have experience of Tibolone please?
« on: September 14, 2025, 04:50:49 PM »

After trying patches containing progesterone and a coil it became obvious I have an intolerance, they made me hyper, anxious and jittery!

I have been trying Evorel 50 patches and vaginal Utrogestan. The patches cause horrendous bloating and the vaginal Utro gives me the best sleep I’ve had in years but I feel so drowsy until late morning (I was told using it vaginally wouldn’t do this! 🙄) I’m normally a get up and get out walking type of person but that’s impossible with his groggy I feel in the mornings now.

Do I ride it out? Will these side effects ease? Or do I go with my next option…?

The menopause consultant said if I didn’t get on with the patches and Utro she was happy to prescribe Tibolone so I’d be interested in hearing anyone else experience with this 🙂

No experience of tibolone but it can be useful for those with an intolerance to progesterone. Have you tried taking utro earlier? I found 10am was best for me but it gave me insomnia as well as being groggy all day. It didn't improve in the 4-5 years I was on it. You may find a different make of patch, (or gel or spray) doesn't give you bloating.

Thank you, I tried the gel and after one application I didn’t sleep for a whole night and only had 3 hours the next 🙈

I will ask about a different patch though, I assumed they’d all do the same. I actually pierced the Utro capsule and squeezed half out to see if it made a difference and I definitely didn’t feel as groggy and slept really well!

Hi - I tired Tibolone a few times and it’s a great option if, like me, you’re very sensitive to progesterone side effects. It sorted some of those out and slowed the rather extreme weight gain from progesterone, but unfortunately ai couldn’t continue because the estrogen effect isn’t steong enough for me - I need around 100 patch but Tibolone gives only half that effect as I understood it.

Hi Helen, I've been taking Tibolone for about 18 months and it suits me very well. I too felt really bloated on 50 evorel and Utrogestan, like the worst PMS, boobs like watermelons, etc, plus it made me bleed and cramp which was stressful. I did wonder whether a 25 patch might hit the sweet spot, but didn't try that in the end. After some hospital investigations (for the bleeding) I was prescribed Tibolone. I've had no side effects at all – I find it very subtle but very effective. It does have a mildly androgenic effect too which I've found helps with mood.

Thank you! I’m seeing my doctor on Tuesday so I’m going to ask for it! I have a feeling he won’t give me it until he’s had confirmation from the meno specialist though ☹️ I’ll get on to them tomorrow actually! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻🙂
