Pain peeing but not infection
« on: September 05, 2025, 06:40:07 PM »

Hi.  Well, now my VVA is finally getting under control I have another problem- does anyone else with vulval atrophy have pain peeing? It’s just at the end of the stream, and not all the time, so I never know when it’s going to happen but when it does it’s really quite painful & burning.
It’s not a UTI and the thrush I keep getting has cleared up and it seems to happen for a few days, then goes away for a few days … really odd.  I was told to put estrogen cream there which I’ve done for months anyway.  I can’t take anti-inflammatories as I’m on blood thinners so not sure what to do, why it’s happening or whether it’s a known ‘thing’ that we have to endure along with all the other symptoms.  I last went for a pee anc hour ago and I can still feel where it was sore.
Any help much appreciated! Thank you.

Hi Snowcat. Is it the type of burn you get when VA is bad & you apply something you think will ease that burn - you know the different things we all try like a new moisturiser etc & you react to it? Or is it more of a sharp burn if that makes sense?!
For me its constant but is worse just as I get to the end of the flow of urine. Mine isn't VA as that's pretty good now I've settled with Intrarosa. It's definitely my urethra but it doesn't go. I can't even remember what it's like not to have this sensation now.
When I get to the end of peeing it's so sharp ot makes me involuntarily squeeze my pelvic floor muscle. I then have to stand up & sit back down again to empty my bladder fully. So I get the sharp burn again 2 for the price of 1!
As you know I don't know what is actually causing mine as yet & the Solifenacin hasn't worked. So it seems we have similarities with the symptoms.
Sorry I can't offer you a solution but once again urinary problems do seem common, don't they?
Have these anyway  :foryou:

Aw, thank you! It’s a sharp pain right at the end of a pee - in the urethra itself not like the burn or stinging of various substances applied there in the hope of symptom relief! It makes me yelp out loud! Just weird that it’s not all the time - not that I’d want it to be! I feel for you if it’s constant - that’s horrible - have you tried a tsp of baking powder in water or some cystopurin sachets? I can’t take those as I’m on Hiprex to prevent UTI which needs an acidic environment to work. I’m pleased that the intrarosa seems to be helping - it’s about find something did! My urologist told me to put some estrogen cream on the urethra before I pee but that didn’t work.  I use hydromol twice a day as a barrier but that doesn’t help either - I wonder if it’s a nerve thing … I’m also getting a very numb/tingly bum now too from sitting on donut cushions!

Snowcat and MrsMitch,

I sympathize with you both.

I have been getting the same sensation.
I was hoping it was UTI but had culture and it was negative.  Sometimes it is every time I pee and other times it is intermittent.  It is quite painful at times.  I have been wishing there was an estrogen cream I could tolerate to try there but that does not seem to be helping you snowcat.

Other times I have urethral burning that comes and goes when not peeing.

Is it Urethral atrophy?   and if so I wonder why the estrogen cream isn’t helping you snowcat or maybe it takes a while?

Hopefully someone else will come along who has found a solution.  I did read on here a while back about something called
Urethral Syndrome.
