Type of HRT with fibroids
« on: September 02, 2025, 08:43:17 PM »

Hi. I've posted a few times before about my trials and tribulations on HRT and I'm currently not on it but I have an appointment tomorrow to discuss it again.

To try and keep it short, I've been on HRT twice this year. Oestrogel and Utrogestan both times. The first time it classed with my other meds (Topiramate) and I bled a lot. The second time I was off Topiramate and I still flooded everywhere. I was sent for a scan, internal and external, but they couldn't measure the lining of womb as there's a fibroid in there 6cm x 6cm x 7cm (in 2019 it was 2.5cm). I've since had a hysteroscopy, they struggled but did get to measure it and its fine.

Tomorrow I'm back at the doctors about HRT again. I was wondering if there is a particular one that doesn't effect fibroids but helps with hot flushes and night sweats in particular?

I also found on Oestrogel I was rushing to the toilet, not making it and wetting myself. This could be to do with the fibroid (I have another referral for this) but it has got better since I stopped HRT.

Thanks for any advice given.

Oestrogen can make them grow so I don't think there's any type of hrt that won't affect it. Have you discussed getting it removed? It seems quite big to me and is likely to be an ongoing problem if you need hrt.

As Sheila mentioned, oestrogen feeds fibroids. You would be best look at having the fibroid removed.

There’s also a non hormonal drug called Veozah, which might help with hot flushes. I think it’s only available privately at present.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to be trying Oestrogel and Utrogestan again and increasing the Utrogestan if the bleeding starts again. I've got a referral to gyney again to discuss the fibroid which I'm told is the size of a tennis ball. I've also had problems with wetting myself whilst on HRT but that could be made worse by the fibroid.

Unless the fibroid was pressing on something incontinence is likely to be GSM so you may need topical oestrogen as well as hrt.

I have multiple small fibroids that I've had removed 3 times but they grow back every time  even without HRT. For that reason I've avoided HRT although my menopause symptoms weren't too bad until the last few months.Menopace helped a bit but not enough. I'm now considering a hysterectomy as I can't go on like this.
