Hi all,
Has anything got any advice for me please?
I've had a virus 5 weeks ago, last week I had awful nausea and dizziness which seems to have turned in to vertigo.
It feels like I'm drunk. I've been given cyclizine to help. Ive seen an audiologist who suggested an inner ear issue like that, the GP said it could be but if it hasn't gone in 3 weeks she will refer to ENT.
If you've had labyrinthitis, I'd appreciate a post with your experience of it, how it made you feel and how long it lasted.
I've had so much lately, I'm finding it really hard to rationalise these symptoms.

My youngest had it when they were little, they said it felt like it was the room that was moving, not their head that was spinning/dizzy. I can't remember how long it lasted, it wasn't ages though, and it just went on its own.

I knew as I opened my eyes if it was present and didn't dare move.  Always after a heavy head cold.  GP gave me anti-nausea medication .  The feeling that the room was moving .......

Why doesn't your GP refer you to the ENT, knowing that the appt can be cancelled if the condition goes away?

Have you tried the Epley Maneuver?  This worked for me after a virus caused inflamation, lots of inner ear fluid and vertigo. It's a simple exercise that .moves the crystals back and stops the vertigo.  Just google it for instructions how it's done, it's really easy.

One of my sons had a nasty occurrence of this. He woke up one morning with it. He could only walk while holding on to a wall. Stairs had to be negotiated on hands and knees or bottom. He was also vomiting each day. He came home to live for four months. He luckily had private healthcare through work so was given prompt treatment. He consulted his GP first who prescribed a medication which the private consultant then told him to stop. By stopping the medication the brain is forced to make new connections to restore balance as the labyrinthitis somehow destroys these. There is another condition called vestibular neuritis so it's worth checking your diagnosis is correct.

My friend has also had labyrinthitis. Hers lasted six months during which time she couldn't drive and had to give up her job. My advice is to take it as steady as possible. Also, have you tried the task of marching on the spot with your eyes closed to see if you stay on the spot? This was the first thing the consultant made my son do. I hope you soon feel much better.

Mummytron do you have any deafness or tinnitus with it?

Does sound like labyrinthitis then. Maybe your gp could give you some of the recommended exercises to be doing while you wait for referral? They do help though they can be difficult in the beginning. It's worth persevering.
