So confused!
« on: September 01, 2025, 09:24:20 PM »

Hi. I've just been prescribed HRT (oestradiol gel 2 pumps daily plus progesterone for 14 days per month). I'm also on the mini pill. I've had some very irregular, small bleeds over the past 12 months but no clear cycle. I was going to start taking the progesterone from the 1st of the month seeing as I can't go off a cycle, but do I start oestradiol before that? And if so how long for? Or do I just start taking both at the same time?
Feeling a bit like my doctor has prescribed it and left me to it with no real support...

If someone is on the mini pill and virtually amenorrhoeic it is better to prescribe continuous progesterone than sequential.

Taking one treatment that (often but not always) stops your periods and another that is designed to patronise you with fake ones is just silly.

The dose of progesterone for continuous use is half that used for sequential, so you will have the same number of capsules whichever way you choose to take it without needing to get your prescription altered.

I'm prescribed one tablet for the 14 days and they don't seem to be ones that can be split in half so this is what I'm on for now. I stated the gel yesterday and then realised I don't know if I should start the progesterone straight away. I need to do something until I can speak to my GP but don't know what to.do.

I have had periods, just super light and very irregular.

Hi as bombshell says, if you’re on the mini pill and don’t bleed then you can take one Utrogestan continuously.

If you are taking Utrogestan for  14 days a month then the dose is 200mg of Utrogestan ( 2 tablets. )

I have Gepretix 200mg capsules so am prescribed one a day for 14 days. I will just need to wait until I can speak to my GP I guess.

Ah ok…apologies…I didn’t realise they were 200mg in one tablet.

In that case, if you are going to be taking them sequentially and you aren’t having many periods, then you can either start them straightaway for 14 days or use the Oestrogel for 14 days on its own and then start the Gepretix for 14 days.

Using the progesterone sequentially will probably cause a monthly bleed. That’s why the advice from menopause specialists is to take 100 every day if the mini pill is stopping bleeding.

Ok, thanks. I will definitely speak to my GP about that but it might take awhile to do that so at least I know what to do in the meantime.

If you have only 200mg capsules and don't want to bleed, you could take one every other night.
