Lost my sweet tooth - perimenopause related?
« on: September 01, 2025, 07:23:44 PM »

I have a ridiculously sweet tooth. Couldn't go a night without chocolate or dessert.

As soon as dinner is finished usually I'm craving sugar.

But recently days have gone by where I just don't want anything sweet. Wondering if it's hormone related due to peri (or HRT).

I suppose I should be glad and my teeth and my body will thank me but it is kind of strange! Anyone else had this?

No, I am the opposite.
I never cared much for sweet stuff. But recently, I can’t get enough sugar! Sweets and chocolate mainly. I’m on chemo and menopausal and my taste buds have all but disappeared! I’m putting it down to that and honestly, I won’t care ( until I see my dentist!)  :o

When U say 'craving' R U able to describe those feelings?  If U don't have chocolate in the house do U have to go out to buy any for example?

My taste buds certainly altered about 10 years ago in that my morning bl/T 2 sugars is OK as is the next: but by mid afternoon any kind of tea tastes foul  :-\. My dental checks are up2date and I'm not taking medication that would cause this symptom.

I wish I had that - nature's inbuilt ozempic!

During COVID I used to say I wish someone could bottle the temporary loss of taste, it would really help people who struggle with their weight eat to only for hunger and not for pleasure!

All very strange!

I basically feel a compulsion to have chocolate after dinner. The only reason I wouldn't go out to buy it is because I'm lazy but otherwise yes I would go out.  ;D

Now I just don't have that urge at all.

I almost feel sad because it is nice to have a treat to look forward to. But so much better for my body and my teeth this way!  ;D
