Can I change GP surgery? (Scotland) and how, please?
« on: September 01, 2025, 02:31:57 PM »

Does anyone know if someone in Scotland  can change GP surgeries?
And how to go about it?
I've googled and seems to imply you need to be within your address area? :(

Thank you .

One needs to be within a certain mileage of the GP Surgery; this is the same for medical Staff.  This harks back to when GPs did house calls.

What brings on the need to change?  Is the problem something that the Practice Manager could resolve?

Hi CKLD

Stems from them stopping my Utrogestan for it's danger a couple of years back, (despite all over Scotland, UK, World Utrogestan was safe but apparently dangerous in my town  ::) We complained , and since then not had a good relationship with the surgery.
Currently they don't believe I am still menstruating aged 61 despite an A-OK scan 2 years ago age 59 (my GP had told me I MUST have womb cancer as I was still 'menstruating' at 59) and no change since. apart from my periods getting lighter and closer together. Regular predictable bleeds with PMS before them.
They treating me as post menopausal and sending me off on scans etc etc. Made to feel like a freak and I am fed up of it....
I'd just love to change surgeries.

I'm in Scotland. I honestly don't know the answer, but we had a choice of different ones when first registering - as in we fit the catchment for a few different surgeries.

Id find the next nearest one and call up to enquire.

Id expect you are allowed to switch as surely it's your right to a second opinion if not happy.

Thanks Crispy.

Yes when I look it is catchment dependent :(  I'm in West Lothian. You?

I might look in to it more when I have more mental energy, right now I don't have the bandwidth in my head. :(

Thanks for your reply  :)
