Totally fed up/anxiety
« on: August 16, 2025, 10:21:42 AM »

Not sure why I'm posting this but maybe better just getting it out there....I'm completely fed up with all things hrt and anxiety. I was first put on hrt last June and since then can't seem to find what's going to work for me. Had Evorel conti patch for 7 months, then changed to another patch (can't remember the name) which reacted with skin, then gel with Gepretix and now it's evorel 50 with Gepretix. Only been 4 weeks with Evorel 50 but I'm just not myself. My anxiety is going haywire, shaky, short of breath, panic, tension/chest pain, teary, don't want to go out but can't stay in 🙈 I don't take anything for anxiety as I don't tolerate what's been given previously to me. I try to use the Calm app, walk etc. Just feel I'm at a complete loss as to what to do.

I know I need to see Dr again but she must be as fed up seeing me as much as I'm fed up asking to see her!

Apologies for the rant

Saz76, no apologies needed. ...you rant away.
I know what you mean about never being able to find the right HRT. I gave up trying after about 10 years at the end of 2023.
Hope your GP is helpful  and you get sorted soon x

Totally understand and sympathise Saz76. I stopped HRT after trying various products and doses over a few years which seemed to make symptoms and my anxiety much worse. I still have some (manageable) symptoms, at the moment, but at least I know it's my own body causing them and not down to the HRT and that reduces the anxiety tenfold.

Saz,  I think so many of us know here are absolutely fed up. Topped with anxiety & it's dreadful. There rarely seems to be a simple route to us being well through all this. But all you can do is keep seeing your GP & persevere with treatment offered. Has it been suggested you have a referral to a menopause specialist? The wait on the NHS can be long but when things aren't straight forward or if your GP isn't well enough informed it may be a better route.

I have to say that my GP has been great. I've not heard of a menopause specialist if I'm honest.
I've thought this morning about referring myself to Living Well for CBT but think I'd say to GP first.

Thank you for all your replies. Had to give hubby a break as he must be ready for running away 😂

Really feel for you - anxiety can be crippling.  I have had really bad spells of it and eventually clicked that it was tied into my HRT dose being either too high or too low (both seem to cause it for me) and the fine tuning was the key but it does take time and a lot of faff trying to get both the dose and the type of medication right and I think I must have tried pretty much all of the oestrogen only transdermal HRT's.  I do hope you can find relief anxiety is a truly horrible thing to have to deal with.  I am like you and both cannot and don't want to take any type of anxiety meds either. I found hypnotherapy very helpful too.

Is it possible you have histamine intolerence? The Newson clinic said some women get anxiety when oestrogen increases as it affects histamine levels.

Also do get your heart rate and blood pressure checked. I was diagnosed with hyperadrenergic PoTs during menopause which gives noradrenaline surges.
