Constant pins and needles now for a week
« on: August 15, 2025, 03:08:09 PM »

Does anyone else have constant pins and needles hands and feet mainly both sides   occasional face numb . It’s been relentless now for a week . Headaches come and go . Went to A+E they did basic neurological tests and said not urgent but to seek further investigations . Pelvic pain on and off for 6 weeks now too .  Seeing nurse again next week to discuss HRT . At 59 I thought I had sailed it apart from peri headaches sore boobs and some flushing .  I am wondering now if this is something else . Would be reassured if others get it constantly . I am not sleeping . I am trying everything   natural Thanks for sharing I saw Sues and others post and feel for you all

Hi!  It is known that during pregnancy some women suffer Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which resolves after delivery.  So your symptoms may well be hormone related.  I can't remember which stage of pregnancy nor which hormone mayB responsible.

My face sometimes has altered sensation for no particular reason.  I tap it gently and it improves.

As oestrogen levels drop the muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Also the body may become dry: inside and out; deep in the ears, eyes, nostrils, vagina ........

Whilst menopause is 'natural' some symptoms can cause problems which is where 'replacement' may be useful. Perhaps make a list of worries prior to your appt with the Nurse and do discuss peri/menopause with her.  When was your last period, can U remember?

Let us know how you get on.

It may also be a trapped nerve in the neck ........... do U need to hang the limbs over the edge of the bed to get relief?

How long will U need to wait to see a GP, because in most areas we are able to self refer to a physiotherapist.

Where I had trigeminal neuralgia attacks in the 1990s feels altered, I have to pat that area occasionally.

I am not sure . I note it is better when walking . Just went out for an eye test and as soon as I got back sat on toilet then sofa and tingling back in feet legs and muscle twitches and face . Not painful . Hoping yo see nurse this week weds

I have had pelvic discomfort for 6 weeks coming and going too and left back discomfort but not severe

Not so sure this is post menopause unless anyone else gets the same pins and needles worse in heat and sitting

Thanks for your help

Hi - just wondering do you take any medication...sometimes things we have been takiing for years and never had a problem with can start to disturb.

Other suggestion is to ask nurse can you have a blood test - don't ask me what ones - but maybe a B12 they did that with me on knee pain and tingly feet.  Think we are susceptible to B12 deficiency post menopausal.

Sure someone with a bit more of an idea can shed light on it....

Are you on HRT? All this is low estrogen... If you are, you need to increase your dose. If you're not, you need to start it if you want to live symptom-free and protect your future health as best you can.

Jacwill66, it sounds like migraines.  You mention headaches, facial numbness and tingling which are obvious migraine symptoms that the hospital should have picked up on and I'm surprised they didn't mention it during the consultation.  You do need to have a formal diagnosis from a neurologist but I'm pretty sure it's a form of migraine.

So many women think they have sailed through the menopause only to find they develop symptoms post menopause.  I have brain stem auras (migraine aura without headache) which are caused by low oestrogen and I'm afraid they would be plaguing me virtually non stop if I didn't take HRT and Verapamil.  There are some migraine subtypes that get worse or even start post menopause.

This is all highly complex stuff and obviously there are people who know more about it than me but put simply, low oestrogen messes with your brain and it affects the brain pathways, the trigeminovascular system and nervous system which can lead to brain excitability which then causes cortical spreading depression.  It's worth reading up on it.

Like joziel said, it sounds like you are in need of oestrogen.  You are well within the window of opportunity for starting HRT (if you are not already taking it) ie within 10 years of your last period and under the age of 60.

I really wish it was more widely known that the menopause doesn't stop with the last period and it is not a phase that simply passes in a few years and then everything goes back to normal. It doesn't work like that because oestrogen deficiency is a permanent state that will be with you for life unless you feed oestrogen back in.

I hope that helps.

No meds

My B12 slightly high as is ferritin but they are not concerned . Fasting bloods taken

I am going to book. With a chiropractor as when I walk things are easier than when sitting . To night feet and calf twitches but hands and face okay .  Trying to do some back stretches and upping my magnesium food intake , it’s a minefield , thanks again

Do NOT let anyone manipulate your neck or spine unless they have seen a recent X-ray i.e. within 3-6 months.  It is possible to do extreme damage with chiropractor etc. - ideally manipulation should be done under full anaesthetic when the patient is completely still and unlikely to resist.

Thank you so much for advice . I definitely would want an X-ray. I am in Glasgow but my Mum in London who has a hip bursa is having fantastic results with her chiropractor after  reviewing  all her X-rays after two years of struggling with pain and limited mobilisation. Now  Has her life back and my mother in law too 15 years ago had debilitating headaches cured by a wonderful chiropractor . I agree though that it has to be done safely . And will do my research . I am in a wait list for the one I chosen  Thank you

My bursitis should resolve if I remembered to do the exercises advised by the physio  ::).  The deep thigh pain was due to leaning over low tables/cabinets in antique fairs  ::) so I've had to remind myself to give my back a rest whilst browsing.

Does your Mum get homework?  :D

I have had problems with twitching eyes and other larger muscle twitches for years and never linked it to meno symptoms.  There has never been a day in about 10 years where I haven't had somewhere around my eyes twitching - either upper or lower, left or right, inner or outer lids.  It is flipping annoying and can be embarrasing when you are talking to people.  I had various tests done a few years ago and it isn't eyestrain.  I was diagnosed with dry eyes and given some drops which did nothing but make my vision blurry for a few minutes, but didn't stop the twitches.  I also get muscles in my thighs, calf and sometimes my arms and abdomen area and you can actually see them jumping through my clothes.

I also have fairly recently noticed my arms, hands and legs getting numb if I sit a certain way or lie on my side in bed, I had put it down to weight gain causing more pressure on nerves and other structures.

Since joining this forum I am amazed at the symptoms we women have to navigate our way through and I take comfort in the fact that I am not the only one.
