Estriol 1mg cream
« on: August 12, 2025, 12:42:58 PM »

Using this twice a week inserting 1 pump each time but I'm getting bloating and discharge. If I drop to once a week will it still work? It's helping with dryness, uti's, painful sex etc. I also take 1/2 kliovance tablet daily. I'm 71.

It mayB the Kliovance rather than the Estriol.  Keep on with that every night for at least 4-5 weeks and mayB search for kliovance 2 C how others have found it.

No it's not the kliovance I've been on it for 25 years! I only use the cream twice a week as prescribed was thinking of dropping to once a week. Is anyone on it just once a week?

I had to alter my diet in the last 5 years due to bloating that made me very ill: unable 2 eat, nausea, wind that wouldn't shift  >:(.  A warm bath was the comfiest place to rest.

Mid-morning coffee outings became difficult once I realised that it was being caused by hidden sugars: croissants, scones, jams, ......... so I cut out a lot of what I was able to eat and my gut problems improved.  Not every day and I still haven't worked out the triggers  :-\.  I reached for cheesecake in the store earlier to be nudged by DH ........ 'a gentle reminder' he told me  :D

Chocolate: eclairs; egg custards; bananas, dried fruits/nuts; all OK in small amounts.  White bread toast at breakfast with butter has been OK thus far.  Lots more veg at tea time and at least 1 banana a day.  A cup of tea after noon bloats me  :(

I've been using VA treatment for several years and have found that I can get by without regular insertion.  I can be OK for 3-4 months without treatment and now recognise the niggles.  U may be lucky in no longer requiring it but that will be Trial and Error 4 U.  If U stop then it may ease the bloating?

Your post is typical of being sensitive to topical treatment and this is the side effects. Have you tried Vagifem or a lower dose Estriol cream.
Unfortunately systemic oestrogen is not always enough to treat GSM and I doubt very much if using just once a week will make any difference to your symptoms.

There are a list of treatments available in this document

Thank you, I didn't know there was a lower dose. Evidently it's meant to be the best one for least side effects and it's definitely helping me apart from the uncomfortable bloating. If I stop will I get withdrawal? If I stop and restart it would I have to go back to the two weeks load of every day? Thanks for your help x

Don't worry about all that nonsense of loading doses, once you find the right dose that suits, use it until you feel better and reduce the dose when the time is right for you, it really is trial and error.

Do read the document in the link I posted, it has loads of fabulous information that will put your mind at rest about using topical oestrogen.

And that's the way to approach it, do it your way and hopefully you will feel better soon.

I'm another who thinks once a week is unlikely to be enough. I wonder if it's like patches that should be changed twice a week - after 4 days you get absolutely nothing from them. If it doesn't suit you I'd change product before reducing to once a week. Or try half the dose twice a week

I too get bloating when using estriol cream, slight cramping too.  I’m 65 and started using estriol a couple of months ago, bloating and cramp definitely the Oestriol.  I’ve had uterine scan recently so I know there’s no thickening either.  I’ve reduced it to once a week to see if I can manage on a reduced dose  :)
