Changing HRT
« on: August 11, 2025, 01:47:09 PM »

I am due to have a full knee replacement. During my pre op I was advised to stop Femoston Conti which has suited me perfectly for several years. I was told to change to a patch as tablet form can cause clots. I changed three weeks ago to Evorol Conti. Since then I have had had really bad hot flushes and sweating. I have looked at the ingredients I think Evorol conti has more eostrogen in than my previous HRT so I can't understand the hot flushes. Also I think I am shedding hair. Anyone else had this experience ?. I was told to stay on HRT at this stage as I am due this operation and things should remain the same. Should I give it longer to work ? I am thinking should I cut the patch in half. I feel gutted giving up HRT that worked from the first week. Sweating while I am writing this 😅

Morning.  How long B4 surgery were you advised to stop what has worked?  1 week, 24/hours, 3 months  :-\ because knowing what we do about postponement of surgery across England and Wales, it mayB that you will wait months prior to admission.

Who is administering your HRT?

gives you equivalent dose but it might be that you absorb differently. Flushes are usually from too little oestrogen not too much. You might want to try and oestrogen only patch or gel which you cam increase up or down with a separate progestogen. I think you need more oestrogen not less.

I agree it sounds like with regard to your own physiology you have been short changed with the dose of estrogen.

I would increase to a higher strength patch - as above you can take progesterone separately which can be a better option and easier to access than wearing two combi patches.

Also make sure you are doing everything to help them stick such as cleaning the skin with alcohol first and using an adhesive dressing over the top.

The mouth is designed to get things into the body whereas the skin is a barrier which is meant to keep things out, hence not everyone absorbs it brilliantly this way, with wide individual variability.

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I have a very good Doctor who listened to my concerns. She has agreed that I was receiving a lower dose of Oestrogen. The progesterone in Evorel conti did not suit me at all. I am now taking Evorel 75 patch and seperate progesterone and things are settling down hot sweats almost gone.  Not sleeping as well but hopefully that will settle in time. Seperate progesterone is not making me sleep as yet. I am taking this at night.Feeling very bloated which I didn't have on Femoston conti but hope this is only temporary.
