HRT recent roller coaster
« on: August 07, 2025, 09:01:39 AM »

The roller coaster of HRT ay.  I have been put on now most of the oestrogen HRT meds over the years and recently had to change again due to both the shortage of estradot patches and the change from the Sandoz made ones.  Being one of those people who is uber and stupidly over sensitive to dose or medication changes in anything and particularly oestrogen I was changed from Estradot to Femseven which unfortunately resulted in me having quite a major allergic re-action to Femseven.  The MC is pretty sure it must have been something in the glue either way it was pretty scary and left me feeling pretty rough.  I have now gone full circle and gone back on what I was happily on till the shortages a few years ago - Oestrogel. For some reason after the shortages when i went back on it I didn't absorb it then which is when I was put on Estradot.  I have been back on Oestrogel  for 14 days so far and again felt pretty grotty starting off on it but have very slowly increased the dose (was always on 3 pumps before the shortages) and was put back on 2 and have slowly worked up to 2 1/2 pumps as from today as 2 pumps I could feel was no way enough...it never was before either.  Today (so far) I do feel more human so am hopeful of hitting the right dose maybe even slightly less down to 2 1/4 which I know seems crazy that it can make such a big difference 1/4 of a pump but it does for me.  I have a little gram scales so always weigh out the extra bit as otherwise for me it would be too hit and miss.  I sincerely hope my journey can rest easy for a considerable time now...going back on Oestrogel was a bit like re-uniting with an old friend this time . :) xxx

Whilst it is terrible that the supply of pharmaceuticals for women's health is seen as optional by governments in a way that other medicines are not, a lot of additional unnecessary suffering is occurring because women have been needlessly scared off taking oral estradiol.

In most cases this can be safely used, and represents a more convenient and reliable option. It is also easier to get a therapeutic dose prescribed as oral estradiol was widely used with established dose ranges in the pre - WHI era.

Products that became popular post-WHI such as patches and gel typically offer much lower dose equivalents.

bombshell311 - thanks so much for your post .  Unfortunately I am not able to take systemic HRT due to having had liver tumours in the past that were caused by progesterone. so I have to stick to transdermal oestrogen only xx
