« on: August 03, 2025, 05:21:25 PM »

Hi ladies …. Ended up in A & E on tues because I could barely walk
and in So much pain with left leg . Couldn't bend the knee forward or backwards. X-rays showed
Moderate arthritis .Doctor thinks there is a bursitis and gave me a steroid injection which has helped with my mobility, but I’m still in terrible pain 5 days later .
Waiting on an MRI …. To see exactly what’s going on . any of you ladies had similar. ??? And what helped. Thank you.X

That sounds really painful. Did you do anything to injure it? Did it just come on suddenly?

Expect the medics will have sdvised this, but in the first instance I would be regularly icing my knee to reduce any inflammation. Wrap an ice pack in a tea towel and wrap it around your knee.

Thanks DottieD68
No …no injury but the speed that it came on  and intensity of the pain is alarming . Just wondered if it’s common amongst us menopausal ladies ? X

Sounds awful.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was another meno thing. I have had a strange nerve pain at the top of my big toe - comes and goes. No explanation from physio.
Give the ice a go! Hope it improves soon. X

Bursitis - itis = inflammation i.e. appendicitis.  tonsillitis ........

Was fluid drawn from the knee Old Lass?  Was it straw coloured, with blood ........... which should have been sent to a Lab 2 C whether you require anti-biotic therapy.

Bursitis is painful.  I have it in both hips ......... a few years ago I had a different set of symptoms where I would walk in the early hours with such deep intense pain in the thigh that I couldn't call out!  It was due to my bending over low cabinets at antique centres so now I have to remind myself not to do so!

I wouldn't consider this to be typically menopausal as I've seen men/women of all ages in Casualty being treated.

Were U advised to elevate?
