Evorel Sequi Patches bleeding on Evorel 50

Hi, l'm 44, had perimenopause
symptoms for a few years.

My periods have also been very
irregular for around 2 years.

I started Evorel Sequi on Friday 18th
July and now on my 4th Evorel 50 patch.

Friday I will start my first Evorel Conti for 4 weeks.

Saturday 26th, on my 3rd 50 patch, i started
a very, very heavy period. Much
neavier than my normal ones.
Is this normal?

ΔΎ've heard that you would
normally get a break through period
after the Evorel Conti because of the
Progestogen as it causes shedding of
the lining of the uterus?

Sorry for the long post, and thank you
if you've managed to read to the end 😍

Unfortunately no predictions can be made about what bleed pattern you will have with sequential hormone therapy in perimenopause.

Irregular and heavy periods are a hallmark of perimenopause in both treated and untreated women.

At 44 you would probably be better off with a combined oral contraceptive pill taken continuously, which can get rid of your periods as well as treating any hypoestrogenic symptoms.

Alternatively you could use a mirena IUS, or a suppressive dose of oral progestin taken continuously alongside an estradiol only patch. Either of these should either eradicate or greatly lessen bleeding.

Oestrogen is the 'bleeding' hormone so its likely the cause of your heavy bleed.  The same thing happened to me 2 weeks after starting hrt.  I was shocked at the amount of bleeding I had.  Unfortunately for me the heavy bleeds continued while on hrt and I ended up taking tranexemic acid and then getting the mirena coil.  I still had bleeding on the coil but it wasn't near as heavy as before.
