Not for me but trying to help someone, they have the implant in the arm and have been taken if femoston 1/10 and given evorel conti patches, 53 yrs old. Not sure if they are peri or post menopause but I was sure you couldn’t use contraception if on hrt?

I was told when I went for my initial HRT appointment that I couldn’t take the pill with HRT. I didn’t question it so I don’t know if it’s because it’s too many hormones at the same time?

Thank you , I was told the same years ago ( early meno ) that I couldn’t and I mentioned to this person that I was sure you can’t take hrt and contraception together.

Any form of progestin only contraception such as the mini pill, implant or mirena IUS is safe and acceptable to use alongside hormone therapy.

The combined pill/patch/Nuvaring (ie with estrogen and a progestin) are not suitable in addition to hormone therapy, but can be used instead of menopause hormone therapy in low risk perimenopausal women.

The depo provera injection is usually advised against after 50 due to concerns about bone loss, however whilst it can affect bone density in younger women, in reality it probably makes a negligible difference after 50 because what ovarian function are you shutting down, and does that matter if hormone therapy is being used concurrently, so I wouldn't necessarily support a hard cut off for this.

Thank you for your reply ! So basically it’s ok for the implant and everol conti to be used together?
Things always change. I’m just thinking that everol conti is for post meno so why the need for the implant, I would get it if it was the sequential one .

If you’re not post menopause then pregnancy is possible even if you’re using HRT.

She might have more progestogen than she needs and an oestrogen only patch might have made more sense depending on how much progestogen is in the implant. As long as she feels good on it's ok.

The problem is there are no studies to show the implant is effective at providing endometrial protection as the progestin component of HRT so whilst in theory it may be, at least with a low dose patch, nobody is going to prescribe this without any evidence.
