Hi I am new here
« on: July 22, 2025, 08:34:48 AM »

Hi
I am new here today and looking to share and not feel so alone with many peri and meno issues.
I am 51, been in peri for about 3 years at a guess. Struggling with tinnitus, muscle aches and pains, breathlessness, severe anxiety and panics and generally feeling like I don’t know myself anymore. I have always suffered from heath anxiety and OcD behaviours but these have exploded in peri. I feel so alone and that I don’t fit in or that I am ill every day. I am also in the process of seeing if I have ADHd which has come as bit of a shock and also new to me - I am so tired and scared I will never feel myself again.
I am currently on HRT patch 25mg and progesterone for two weeks a month. And in the last 3 months I have a massive belly appeared, literally almost overnight! 😢 my self esteem is through the floor. I can’t bear myself.
Sorry for all the info - sounds like a massive whinge and poor me but just need something to say it’s not me going mad

You're not going mad at all and have come to the right place.

Given that you are on the lowest available dose of estrogen - guidelines recommend the lowest EFFECTIVE dose, there is every likelihood that you will be able to get back to feeling like yourself again with the right treatment.

For many women this also includes androgen replacement as well.

As well as using the forum for support, I would suggest making an appointment with a menopause specialist to work with you to find the correct treatment for you. This often takes some trial and error.

However regarding the recent and sudden increase in abdominal size, this is something that you should get checked out by your GP without delay - in particular you should have an examination, an ultrasound scan and a ca125 blood test.

Hi
Thanks - that tipped my health anxiety off!  lol - already had a CA125 as have them fairly regularly.
Unfortunately it’s belly fat - a stone and a half of it!

Welcome.

You whinge away, it's a good place to vent.

Your symptoms are 'common' in peri.  Some find that anxiety levels rise so it stands to reason that any OCD may well become more troublesome.  When I find that I am washing my hands too often I make a list of when I ought to so that I can tick off each time.

A loss of oestrogen may cause laxity of muscles = aches and pains and the body may become dry: inside and out - so do read the vaginal atrophy threads. Make notes ;-).  Get treatment if symptoms start.

Tinnitus - mine is slightly behind my head  ::) and worse sometimes more than at others.

Why have you required regular CA125 tests?  It's worth thinking about whether it's that your apron has fallen as osterogen has dropped off [mine did  >:(] - whether the belly is soft or feels hard and if it might be the over all HRT regime.

You're definitely not alone here,HA is awful and so many of us have it,as we do the belly fat,I HATE mine, I'm not overweight at all but have this horrid blubber in front of me,tried everything but nothing shifts it, I guess it's a case of learning to love it 🙄😂

I am glad you have been checked out, and sorry for triggering your HA - something I am no stranger to myself  ;)

As a BRCA2 advocate I just couldn't see someone mention a symptom like that and not urge them to get it checked out if they hadn't already.

Thank you all. I have CA125 done a couple of times a year as they have a pattern of being over (just) and then under the 35 measure and so we just check them but they always go back down and I had a scan two years ago when the results were higher and all was good. And thank you I know you were just looking out. You are right about the apron thing, I put on a stone and a half after giving up smoking 7 months ago and it’s now created a flabby monster around my middle! I will try and love it! My health anxiety is through the roof and I find every new peri symptom sets me off. So nice to talk to people xxx
